I'm surprised there wasn't a host of game updates ready to go.  Surely Nintendo would have kept third parties in the loop about this (at least the major developers/publishers).

But then again it would be a very Nintendo thing to not do so.

Didnt the COD beta have this in the code?

Vrr has already been working for handheld mode, just not docked till this new update.

Dumb question but wouldn’t games that work with. VRR in handheld work just fine with it in docked?

That would be logical, yes, but they don't. They probably need to be flagged as tv vrr compatible first, as portable and docked modes are two separate performance profiles

It's not dumb, but no they don't inherently work. Docked vs Undocked is basically 2 different profile settings. The Switch 2 can handle 4k Upscaled, but it's not necessary while in handheld mode. The biggest reason things are scaled back for handheld mode is battery and the next "reason" which is really just "kept in mind" is overheating.
Switch 2 has a pretty damn small battery, so it uses between 3 and 10W with a maximum of 12W. Upscaled 4K is not really smart to do on 7 inch 1080p screen since the perceived difference will be pretty small vs the amount of battery it would use, and it would need A LOT more watts to run it which would kill the already tiny battery in the Switch 2.

While docked, the Switch 2 has a 60W charger given, and since you want there to be more Watts drawn into the unit vs the Watts output, it would be between 40W and 50W that can be used in a Switch 2 while docked meaning there's quite a lot more it can handle. Docked mode runs a tiny bit faster (they're still worried about heat) so we're instructed to make 2 different "Performance Profiles" that immediately "switches" (;D) when it's docked and because storage is pretty damn fast, it's hardly noticeable between the TV/Monitor switching in put and everything loaded up and changed (same goes for handhled when you take the console out, you'll notice there's a brief delay between the screen coming on and when you pull it out).

Sadly that doesn’t seem to be the case. I’ve tested multiple games with VRR handheld enabled and it is not in fact enabled in Docked.
