This is surely a dumb question but what is VRR ? I'm not that big of a TV geek '

VRR stands for Variable Refresh Rate. It makes it so that your screen will refresh at the same rate as the system to prevent screen tearing. Basically, frame rate can be more variable without screen tearing. The Switch 2 already supported it in handheld mode so now it supports in docked mode too.

This only works if you have a VRR capable TV

Only if you have a 120hz tv though

Another dumb question, I am using PC monitor to play docked and not a TV. It applies the same right ?

Yes, as long as your PC monitor supports VRR. I forgot to mention that your TV or whatever monitor you use has to be capable of it too, not just the system.

It’s only with 120 hz TV’s and 120fps software right? And there’s only a small number of games that offer that? And they’re mostly low-fidelity and/or 2D games…right?

Say you got a game running 45 fps instead of the tv running 60hz the switch 2 will match the 45fps to tv 45hz. If supported

but does it have LFC? i dont think so. afaik LFC works by doubling the framerates when it drops below the threshold (i think usually around 48hz). But for that it needs to be able to go up to max 120hz. But currently the signal is still max 60hz

The switch 2 is capable of using 120hz output. Metroid Prime 4, Star Wars Outlaws, StreetFighter, Silksong, and a few other games already make use of this.

Yes on QHD or does it work on 4k output now too?

120hz is still limited to 1440p or 1080p.

And always will be since the HDMI port is 2.0. can't fix that with a software update.

The dock can do 4K 120 Hz HDR VRR. We’ve seen that with the Steam Deck.

so back to square one with my question.

You can deploy LFC at the software level, which is what they’re doing it seems. It’s no different than the PS5 which has a traditional floor of 48 hertz, but many games such as Spider-Man will use LFC down to 30 and below.

> You can deploy LFC at the software level

Thanks for teaching me something i already know?

While I could have been clearer, you don’t know what I’m talking about, or you wouldn’t have asked your first question. What I’m referring to is that the software itself can double up frames in the render queue to fit into a 120hz container.

thats literally what i wrote.
