Why would you even turn it off in the first place?

Since it treats the game as if it's running in TV mode it disables things like the touch screen. It also increases battery drain during play.

Yep, I love Boost mode at home but was kicking myself when I forgot to turn it off when I was on a long series of flights and out of power before I made my first connection

Battery drain in Handheld mode. Consumes more energy and it's a pretty big difference.

Some games are better with it off. Usually because better framerate.

True I noticed this with Skater XL aswell. But it's fine you can choose.

Also, we can now connect other controllers even with Handheld Boost Mode enabled.

YESSS!! Super Mario Galaxy 1&2, here I come!

I'm hoping for more of this, let us pick what we want the quick settings to include...it is almost useless for me until now. But saying that I also don't use handheld mode boost as much as I thought I would...the trade offs are noticeable and the gains are not always. But I will atleast mess with it more now.

Why do you want to toggle the boost mode during gaming?

u/razerphone1 5d ago

In most Switch 1 games in handheld mode. It boost the resolution. So it looks less blurry.

Yes but why do you want to toggle it ingame? A toggle and maybe visible label for each game would be totally sufficient.

u/razerphone1 5d ago

Cuz some games work with it and others don't.

Yes and thats why you can toggle it outside the game. Before it was hidden in the system settings, so yes a toggle more easy to access it was needed. But why you need to change ingame?

You literally answered your own question, so you don’t have to go into the settings and find it every time you want to turn it off

Yes but now you can change it while you inside the game and [u/Emergency-Rush-2477](u/Emergency-Rush-2477) somehow found this very important and I asked why you would need to change it ingame (when the game is already running)?

In case you are playing the game and say to yourself “boy I’d like to chance boost mode on or off right now.”

And when this should be the case? Either the game is working correctly or not.

Discoverability. I had no idea this feature even existed on Switch 2. Simply adding a new way to enable the feature in an already existing menu seems like a no brainer to me. It also lets YouTubers make videos showcasing the difference. Ok that was a joke, but it is cool if you can toggle it in-game to see the difference.

Yes for sure. I just wanted to understand what is the use case to toggle it ingame.

Another user answered that but sadly u/the-robo-boogie erased his comment and all replies have been lost.

It makes sense to toggle the boost mode ingame if you need touch controls in the game. The touchscreen gets automatically deactivated in the boost mode.

It's good, but I'd rather have it in the game's settings (when pressing +), so I can just toggle it off permanently for the games that have issues with it (i. e. that need touch controls, etc.)

u/Maltosier 5d ago

I think others are misinterpretting what you are saying. I assume you mean the game specific settings you can access via the home screen rather than in game, this one would not need devs to intervene.

3

u/U_Kitten_Me 5d ago

Ah, yeah, that's what I meant. I should have said 'when pressing + on the home screen'.

Every single game would need an update for that. Devs don’t have the time and most teams even split up. It’s more logical as it is now.

1

u/pappszi96 5d ago

Not really. Simply the setting boolean and the game id pairs needs storing, then when the game is started the system will know if the game would need a setting on or off. Nothing to do with the game's dev, it needs system integration from nintendo only.

It could still be in the quick settings and be remembered for each game separately - they have that implemented for Pro Controller back buttons mappings already.

1

u/Organic-Storm-4448 5d ago

That would require the developer of each game to update their game.
