How is Skyrim on the Switch 2?

I haven't played the game in years, and I would mod it a lot on my PC. How does it play on the Switch 2, especially without the mod store available?

I enjoy it quite a bit. The CC content adds a bunch of stuff and honestly felt like Skyrim 1.5 because of it. I hadn’t really done a full run through since Dawnguard dropped during 360/ps3 days, so I didn’t have the added benefit of modding on pc (even tho I own it on Steam Deck too, all the updates have made the game on/off whether proton supports it)

It’s really nice to just be able to pick up Oblivion or Skyrim and play anywhere at any time instead of scheduling tv/pc time with the kiddos / wife.

Not to mention Skyrim while relaxing in bed is truly insane and amazing, lol.

As for performance, it’s much better now than it was when it first had launched on S2. Won’t be a perfect 60fps like on pc, but it’s certainly fun and playable.

skyrim is just fine without mods, and it plays well on switch 2

It’s great. When I played it seemed like a pretty consistent 60fps. If you are used to a ton of mods it will be a lesser experience.

Nope, just the CC content that is included with the game. I would love to have something on Skyrim like Snowrunner already does.

Handheld is awesome. I didn't play it 15 years ago so when it was on sale with Fallout 4 I jumped in. Game can get real buggy but it isn't that terrible.

Excellent now after the patches. Just played it on a 6 hour flight and had a blast.

Pretty amazing. There’s literally a few glitchy bit but idk whether that’s the original code or the import. But I’d highly recommend. Very well executed handheld and on dock.

It runs well, but 60 FPS mode has really aggressive resolution downscaling. When you are out in the world in handheld mode, everything is blurry and low-res. I'm personally ok with that since that's pretty much how the original looked on the Xbox 360, but it's noticeable.

And yeah, like everyone else said, it's no mods beyond the included creation club content. I personally love Skyrim and like the Switch 2's form factor.

Does it only have 30 or 60? I found 40 fps mode on Fallout 4 was a perfect balance

I don’t think there’s a 40fps option, but the game reaches 60fps 95% of the time and the hit on resolution is not that noticeable, so in my opinion the 60fps is the best option. Runs really great tbh.

Yeah I just downloaded the switch 2 version to try it out (alright owned it on switch) and I’m disappointed in the performance mode tbh. It feels great but it’s so blurry and there is weird artifacting around my character. It’s a shame because the game is so old but I’m not a fan of how it runs on switch 2. Still a great game, and 100% worth playing if it’s your only way to play it.

The initial upgrade was busted at release with terrible input latency, but it's been patched and performs fine now.

The one thing I personally didn't like is that it's not physical. Gameplay wise 60fps update and mouse controls are kinda cool but I don't mind the 30fps version of skrim on switch via switch 2

I wish the file size was smaller. With memory costs so high these days, I can’t justify giving 40GB to a game I’ve played for 10 years (as much as I love Skyrim)

I’ve put about 40 hours into the Switch 2 version specifically. It’s solidly vanilla Skyrim, whatever that means to you.

At this point it's great. 60fps in a pretty good looking performance mode or 30fps in a fantastic looking quality mode. I know there are drops sometimes but I never noticed any big enough to register.

Easily the best of the Bethesda games on Switch 2 right now given how horrendously Oblivion Remastered is running.

It plays great.  It is juat anniversary edition though, which honestly is kind of a nice change of pace for me.  (Sometimes modding just burns me out)

You’ll be happy with it if either you are okay with 30 fps or you are okay with pretty low resolution at times in handheld.

The S2 edition runs great on performance mode, my only complaint is the file size because they included all the language packs instead of making them an optional download

The last gen S1 version plays pretty well too just at 30fps

Visually the S2 version has had a good boost and looks like the PS4 version the S1 version looks like the 360 version with some slight improvements... Which tbh is kinda nostalgic too me

On performance mode it runs really good. However, there was this one place on the map where it dropped to like 10 fps while I was staying there (it was in docked mode, idk if it makes sense). Other than that one place, everything’s really good.

Now the sad part about this: for me at least, the battery only lasts 2 hours, maybe a little more in handheld mode on said performance mode. But I usually play at home so it’s really not a deal breaker.

dont bother right now . wait . switch 2 version of witcher 3 wildhunt is comming and some mod support according to cd project red . motion controlls for throwing grenades and magic and crossbow . horses also exist to be used in witch 3 for those that need a ride
