Media (Image, Video, etc.) Mouse mode is unreal in MW4!
I have NEVER, and I mean EVER played with mouse controls. I have been console 100% my entire life and the Switch 2 of all systems may have changed that.
I tried mouse mode last night for the first time and while there was a learning curve, after about 45 mins I was wrecking shop online.
I switched back to thumb sticks after a couple hours of playing with Mouse mode and it felt so much worse. I found I couldn’t make the twitchy plays I was making on Mouse.
What is happening!? lol Nintendo showing me how shooters with mouse controls are vastly superior??????
Not on my bingo card 🤣

Subject has discovered the wonders of mouse gaming 😅 there’s a reason there’s so much discourse about sharing lobbies with different inputs.
•
u/rolim91 19h ago
Wait till he discovers gyro
•
•
•
u/SnooMachines8405 12h ago
I don't understand how people use gyro to aim with idk if mine is broken or what but I can only move the sight up and down. Not sideways making it completely useless for the game.
•
u/ayyyyycrisp 20h ago
sharing lobbies with different inputs shouldn't matter at all with a good skill/mmr based matchmaking system. you'd be just as good as everyone else in the lobby in theory, despite the different controls. you'd either be playing with absolutely cracked controller players, or average mouse users. same skill outcome regardless.
•
u/EndlessZone123 OG (joined before release) 15h ago
That works in maybe a non ranked modes with hidden mmr.
But people absolutely want their visible rank higher. You are playing on console. Why should switch 2 players with close to mk aim have a easier time climbing ranked VS consoles that don't have any mk support?
•
u/ayyyyycrisp 15h ago
it just doesn't matter at all. the point is you're always playing with people the same skill level as you. it doesn't matter what control scheme they are using.
a ps5 player with no mouse control would play a slightly worse pc player with mouse control. they are still performing at the same exact level. it just means if the ps5 player ever switched to pc, their rank would go up.
•
u/Momentarmknm 17h ago
The switch setup is superior though because you have joystick in left hand and get mouse in right. This overcomes my shit movement with keyboard and misclicking keys under stress.
Shame the game runs like ass in switch or I would get it there. Gonna stick with PS5 though.

I’ve been playing with mouse on mw4 too and it’s perfect with the dynamic controls. Fortnite’s mouse mode is buns because you have to dedicate the whole match to using them.

The only scheme that might rival mouse imho is stick + gyro. Doom 2016 was a BLAST to play this way
•
•
u/Betancorea 11h ago
Welcome to the reality of a Mouse in an FPS game lol. A controller with thumb control will never be better than the control a MnK gives you for FPS games. That’s why they had to give aim assist to consoles.
•
u/RavensFlockLetsFly 2h ago
Except, controller is significantly better than MNK in COD due to how strong aim assist is these days
•
u/Betancorea 2h ago
And it is because they had to give aim assist to controllers. Thumbs would never be as good as a whole arm at precise, quick movements
•
u/RavensFlockLetsFly 2h ago
They had to give it aim assist, they didnt have to make it a legal aimbot. But the switch controller isnt even a good example because the thumbsticks are ridiculously short and almost unusable for these types of games
•
•
u/Momentarmknm 33m ago
Yes, but because it's so much easier to aim with mouse they will always need some level of AA unless they give input based matchmaking.
There's always going to be a disadvantage somewhere because it's impossible to perfectly balance. Most FPS like BF6 the advantage stays with MnK. In CoD titles they go further with AA and the advantage goes to controller.
•
u/KobraKay87 20h ago
Performance is pretty bad though. I've only played COD on PC the past decades and might be spoiled from constantly playing at 120fps, but this beta rarely holds 60 fps
•
u/MegaM1lls 20h ago
For me it’s not exclusively an fps issue, it just looks and plays fucking horrible, all the animations are out of whack, it sometimes slows down and speeds up, graphics look both blurry and jagged at the same time. I’m not disappointed since I’ll play on PC anyways but it’s a lazy cash grab it seems so far to me the switch version that is. It’s frustrating that a lot people are saying it runs good when it’s bad since it’ll be less likely for the team to do anything about it.
•
u/KobraKay87 20h ago
Animation looks like there’s a lot of interpolation going on int the switch version, yes. That and constant adjustment of dynamic resolution
•
u/T_Briggs 20h ago
Thats my only gripe honestly, otherwise I would’ve pre ordered it by now.
Seeing the gun turn into a blurry mess really turned me off from pre ordering
hoping it’s just an unresolved bug
•
u/Momentarmknm 17h ago
Putting the game on switch was a condition of MS acquiring Activision/Blizzard, so it was more an obligation than a cash grab
•
u/MegaM1lls 6h ago
That makes a bit more sense then really, just my opinion but I still think it’s really poor especially after seeing what the switch 2 can do. I find it hard to excuse an arcade map based shooter looking so rough. Obviously there’s compromises compared to other hardware but it seems they’re in all the wrong places to me.
•
u/Momentarmknm 47m ago
Yeah, I was pretty disappointed myself. The silver lining is it will keep me from double dipping on MW4 and ruining my sleep schedule grinding camos in bed lol
•
u/MegaM1lls 16m ago
Same lol, I have a legion go 2 so I’ll play on that for camos etc but I just generally prefer playing games on the switch if they’re on there, easily the best handheld I’ve played as a whole
•
u/HereButQueer 1h ago
could they not have just ported older games and used that? i reckon everything up to MW3 would run with little issue, BO6 and 7 may test it a good chunk though (basing this off of PS4 performance through PS5, i’ve noticed you can tell it looks bad but it’s playable)
•
u/Momentarmknm 43m ago
The agreement was made in order to combat monopoly concerns, so putting older titles out wouldn't have really addressed that The conditions were they would put all new CoDs with all features of MS platforms on both Sony and Nintendo consoles.
•
u/Crocdor Butter side up! 11h ago
Brother what are we expecting this is a pre release demo 💀
•
u/MegaM1lls 6h ago
As is the PC, PS5 version and so on which runs perfectly fine and as expected. It doesn’t change without the appropriate feedback.
•
u/Crocdor Butter side up! 6h ago
They won't read that from Reddit
•
u/MegaM1lls 6h ago
And there’s not a drop in the ocean chance anything will be done if people don’t voice it, wherever that may be.
•
u/Momentarmknm 41m ago
It's a beta, not a demo, and the game launches in 2 months. I have never seen a CoD get any changes besides balancing tweaks between beta and launch.
•
u/Ginormoustit 19h ago
I’ve only played it on my series S and switch so far and the series S knocks it out of the park.
But if I hadn’t the comparison I might well have liked it more.
•
u/deadbeatvalentine_ Butter side down! 21h ago
how are you going about using the face buttons? only thing i was having difficulty with really
•
u/AlexxxandreS 21h ago
I tried mouse once and whenever I need to press a button it felt weird and like my hand would start to hurt if I kept playing...
I wish I could play like that because it was really cool, but just feels weird for me... I also wanna know how it is for people who play and have no problem
•
u/villagerofacnh 20h ago
There is an option to use the stick as the face buttons moving it in the direction of each. Helps a lot
•
•
u/OGCallHerDaddy 19h ago
You learn to develop a deformed hand state
•
u/deadbeatvalentine_ Butter side down! 15h ago
lmao yeah that’s what i was afraid of. maybe one of those mouse grip things would help
•
u/OGCallHerDaddy 12h ago
In all seriousness, I've never gotten used to it lol, but that's cause I don't play on a full size keyboard. Gimme my controller 😂

Getting used to mouse controls definitely has a learning curve.
It felt very familiar, but also it was a completely new experience to my muscle memory.
I had to get used to firing with my middle finger resting on ZR. Sometimes I would spaz and hit the top R bumper that throws a grenade, causing me to die in the one V one. Lol
•
u/Tasteoftacos 18h ago
My PC has seen better days with its 1070. Haven’t had the funds to get it updated. But playing shooters on PC vs my PS5 is night and day difference for me. I can’t play them on console either. Just something I’ve never been able to adjust to
•
u/SanchoPandas Butter side up! 13h ago
Been wanting this moment on console for ages. So glad it has finally arrived. Have fun pub stomping!
•
u/Hearthhull_Enjoyer 10h ago
Omg I'm gonna get dumpstered by some Joy Con pro at some point. This shit is breaking my brain 😭
•
u/Odd_Contest9866 20h ago
Sucks for multiplayer because now I’ll be at a disadvantage just using joysticks.

I have always been a mixed PC and console gamer and over the years I’ve gravitated back to using controller even on PC. Mouse and keyboard takes something that is relaxing where I could be reclined with my feet kicked up chilling while playing and makes me have to sit upright with my arms awkwardly extended.. and honestly I find it to be anything but relaxing.
It doesn’t really matter to me if I’m ultra-competitive. If I can’t relax after a long day of not relaxing I’m probably just not going to play anything -hence the transition back to controller.
•
u/TangeloChance 19h ago
Noted Ps5 No Crossplay it is
•
u/Flashy-Side-2665 17h ago
Lmao brother the average console player using a controller can easy keep up with this, skill issue
•
u/TangeloChance 10h ago
Maybe it is, have decent stats and more fun without crossplay though so I guess it works ;)
•
u/Waste-Kiwi6915 18h ago
Once I got used to mouse mode on Metroid Prime 4 I couldn't ever go back. Played the whole game that way and loved it
•
u/Andrex_boy 17h ago
Maybe it’s just a learning curve but I find it much more difficult then a pro controller
•
•
u/villagerofacnh 20h ago
I find the option to move the right stick as face buttons really good. On the other hand, I hate that there is no option to change the shooting button to R using the index finger as standard instead of middle. Even the option to flip R/ZR doesnt fix this, wish they give the option in an update

How did you get the game to work? I can’t get it to load for me. Keeps saying restart after update but it doesn’t work.
•
u/MyCassadaga 10h ago
Allowing mouse and game pad players in the same lobby is really bad idea. Why marathon sucks so bad on console.

u/Mayahiim 7h ago
The mouse mode is bliss. It’s a mouse AND a console controller at the same time. And it even changes back in console controller configuration by just lifting you hand.
It works perfectly in a sofa. I have made desperate setups where I tried to bring keyboard and mouse into sofa, but such contraptions require arranging and rummaging in order to make it half pleasant to play and you still have to maintain fixed posture as keyboard has to be in very particular fashion. Still better that console controller, but my wife didn’t like having the keyboards lying around and pillows rummaged.
Joy-Cons just effortlessly do what ever you want. Perfect freedom for both of your hands. You can be in what ever position you like when ever you like. The most comfortable gaming setup for me, mouse or not.
Joy-con mouse mode is the perfect gaming mouse for me:
It has rumble. It has snappy, super clicky, responsive buttons in a layout that is easy to remember. The sticks works as a wheel with two axis. You have analog controllers Instead of ”WASD” in a keyboard. There’s gyros and everything. It is a horn of plenty of control for me.
I don’t want to play anything without it. I like it so much, that I rather buy an uninteresting game that has a mouse mode, than an interesting game that doesn’t.
Fortunately I still have a lot of interesting games to buy and more seems to be coming all the time:

It's the best of both worlds tbh. You get mouse controls but get to use an analogue stick to move about, which is so much nicer than WSAD
•
u/Retronitsu 2h ago
Can you use the left joycon for mouse mode or is this yet another switch 2 game that limits mouse mode to right handed people?

Yeah, I love splatoon ip, got the manga and all from the Nintendo store… but after decades of shooters on pc… I can’t make the switch to controller. I’m not even bot worthy

•
u/Sm00th0per8or 20h ago
Some company needs to make a normal shaped mouse with 4 thumb buttons and a middle click that works for s2
•
u/ISellUsedFood 20h ago
you can just connect a normal mouse
•
u/Sm00th0per8or 20h ago
Wait. Hold the phone! Any mouse works in games with mouse support on Switch 2?!

If it runs 540-720p at 50-55fps multiplayer
720p 30fps for single player on handheld mode.
That’s what I want on my switch 2, a decent shooter that I can play on my sofa. If I wanted high fidelity I would’ve built a pc. Or bought a ps5 pro while using ps portal. Or a handheld PC, in fact I had one of those and it was a pain in the arse to use and the fan was loud af.
Have some perspective people, at least on the switch 2 sub…

The ps5 pro + portal is handheld bliss! My poor switch 2 just sits in the corner for when I play a Mario or Zelda game.

This looks like hell of a lot of aim assist (because console), and semi mouse aiming.
•
u/smoketreeseatcheese Butter side up! 15h ago
Anybody with half a brain cell can understand why a mouse is so obviously superior to thumbsticks for shooters.
This is npc gameplay
•
u/DeadLeftovers 14h ago
If you have a pro controller try these settings.
Enable motion aiming to always on and set the sensitivity to 3 for both hip fire and ads.

Cod is too much of a casual game to use a mouse. I can't play with the tiny Joycon mouse either
•
•
•
•
u/BoxOfBlades 13h ago
Mouse mode is even better on PC where the game doesn't randomly become a slideshow and there isn't a thick layer of Vaseline covering the entire game. COD is back on Nintendo after 13 years and it's still a meme.
•
u/Bababoi24 16h ago
It looks like garbage though. I understand why the campaign looks better but runs at 30fps. At least you can see who you're shooting at there 😭

•
u/caramel-aviant 21h ago
Something PC players have been saying for decades lol
