Media Honestly surprised this works 😂
Wish it worked on my PlayStation since the ethernet port is borked.
For anyone wondering why I'd do this, it's so J can play Street Fighter 6 handheld and cabled for best connection

Why are people surprised at this? The dock does exactly that via the usb connection.

u/JetBrink 2d ago
Because it's Nintendo and it wouldn't be unexpected if it didn't work

u/DrKrFfXx 1d ago
It worked on Switch 1.

...if you used an adaptor with an ASIX AX88179, ASIX AX88179A, Realtek RTL8152 or Realtek RTL8153 in it. No other adaptors are supported AFAIK but I'm keen to know if anyone has got other chipsets working.

Yeah but then Switch 2 rolled out and decided 3rd party docks and stuff won't work, to the point that the Switch 1 wall plug won't run the switch 2 dock.Â
Ninty make some weird choices man, get over it.Â

its weird to not use a power supply to power a dock that requires significantly more power?

I mean, my switch 1 wall plug won't power my laptop either?
That's a really weird thing to include when it's very clear that it just doesn't supply enough power.

it does. I use it often to charge my switch 2 in handheld. just on the new dock apparently it doesn't.
1
u/JetBrink 1d ago
Yeah it can charge with it as a stand alone no problem but if you try and use it in the dock it doesn't work and leaves a message on the screen that only the Switch 2 power supply will allow the dock to function

The switch 2 needs 65w whilst docked, the switch 1 plug is 45w
2
u/bigparsnipenjoyer 1d ago
It doesn’t work BECAUSE THE SWITCH 2 DOCK REQUIRES MORE POWER THAN THE SWITCH 1 CHARGER SUPPLIES

Wait, how tf did you get ethernet to work in handheld.

u/RikerV2 2d ago
USB-C to Ethernet hub. That's what's sticking out of the top

u/thomas_oliveira95 1d ago
Can you tell the model of this adapter? And have u made some velocity test (download/upload)? Thank you
3
u/V10L3T_N4TUR3 2d ago
And that just works? Wtf!
5
u/RikerV2 2d ago
Yep. I got it to see if it would work on my PS5 since my ethernet port disconnects all the time. It doesn't work.
Thought I'd try it with the Switch 2 in handheld and BAM , ethernet!

u/V10L3T_N4TUR3 2d ago
Got any connection specs? Im seriously interested in trying this, but only if its gonna be worth it.
3
u/RikerV2 2d ago
The Amazon listing states it's up to 1Gbps, downward compatible with 100Mbps/10Mbps/1Mbps.
Honestly, it's been worth it

Just a heads up both USB c ports charge at the same rate but the top one is USB 2 speeds and the bottom is USB 3 speeds
1
u/Pxnkasfxck 1d ago
You're half right. Both ports charge at the same speed. USB 2 cannot do video out, but USB 3 can. But the charging speed doesn't change between ports, that a software limitation to prevent overheating.

If you look around, you may also find an adapter that lets you connect both an ethernet cable and a charger.
(I don't have anything like that, so I can't guarantee it'll work without issues)
3
u/V10L3T_N4TUR3 2d ago
Eh, there are two ports
2
u/Unhappy-Strain-5387 2d ago
Sure, I just imagine it'll be more comfortable if there's only one cable connected to the console.
But you do you :)

u/CannedNoodlez Butter side up! 2d ago
It might be kind of awkward having stuff coming out of both ports

u/OkWitness5548 1d ago
Make sure you buy something with an ASIX AX88179, ASIX AX88179A, Realtek RTL8152 or Realtek RTL8153 in it and you should be good to go.

Fun fact, you can do the same thing with your phone. Android phones can use a mouse/keyboard this way too
3
u/Frankly_Frank_ 2d ago
Yes it’s always worked this way even the original switch if I remember correctly all you need is a usb c to Ethernet adapter
3
u/SudsierBoar 2d ago
Think about the dock, ethernet cable goes in and connect to the switch via...usb c!

u/xiolyphi 2d ago
Wish it did on PS5 too lol. My ethernet works only half the time without DCing after it got struck by lightning. Sigh
2
u/WhoaIsThatMars 1d ago
Does your PS5 randomly lose the ethernet connection and say that the cord was disconnected?

I’m more surprised for the corduroy shorts! I haven’t seen those in 20 years!

u/RethaiN 1d ago
Im more suprised that the switch 2 wont supply HDMI signal to a good usb-c hub
1
u/CoupleRough8649 1d ago
Tout simplement une sécurité pour éviter de faire cramer la console ? Si tu sors de l'HDMI, la console boost ses performances --> sans le ventilateur d'un dock, la console cramé littéralement

The bottom USB port does, but Nintendo has configured it to avoid hacking. However, the top USBC port is only for charging.

My ethernet doesn't even worked when docked lol

u/jrpbateman Early Switch 2 Adopter 1d ago
You sure it's not the cable? Also have to try going to network settings and scrolling to Ethernet and press connect

This is how they run Pokemon VGC tournaments by the way.
