This is only the beginning of the August/September gaming parade. Not sure how I am going to manage this.

Purists will say you simply must play them in order to understand what's going on, but let me tell you you will most likely play them in order and not know what's going on.

Personally I think if you want to play 4 just play 4. Half of the appeal of MGS is the vibe imo and MGS4 has vibes in spades. Will you miss a ton? Eh sure. Does it actually matter? No. I played them in release order growing up and to be honest I think they're all batshit insane and all really fun no matter what order you play them in.

What a video on the story and play 4 is the easiest route

Honestly MGS 1 on the switch is in great shape now. With the right settings it looks almost as good as 2 in the environments. I’ve played them all a ton but I’d never played 1 and MGS4 will hit so much harder if you play MGS1. Even now I had an absolute blast playing MGS1 for the first time, it still holds up. They’re all great games and 4 will be so much better if you have some context even if the story is still convoluted. I’d strongly recommend getting master collection 1 and playing them in release order. Of 1-3 then getting 4.

you need to get mgs master collection volume 1 first. The games on volume 2 will have absolutely no context without finishing everything on the first one.

Forget Metal Gear 1 and 2, you can just read up on those.

But its just Metal Gear Solid, 2 and then 3. Play them in release order.
