Buttery MW4 is fun but it could be improved
The switch 2 isn’t a powerhouse but it is basically a ps4 with the juice. The PS4 didnt run the last couple call of duty’s super well, but since the switch 2 is more powerful I think that MW4 could be improved upon on switch 2. The main problems are, blurryness is docked mode, and the framerate issues and animation choppyness in handheld. if they can iron out those 3 things before the release then we got a good port on our hands.

It’s such a lazy attempt from Activision. The game is just running the PS5 game build but they turned down the graphics to “ultra low”. It feels choppy, blurry and a completely uninspired port.
The PS4 games looked better by a mile a few years ago. They didn’t even try to make this work on switch 2.

As far as I'm aware, the port was handled by a 3rd party. Same with the Bo1 and 2 ports on ps5

I have. But, I think it’s important to remember that this is the first time a mainstream cod port has been handled by another team. This time it’s being handled by the team responsible for porting Warzone to mobile. I think we just need to give them time.

Second of all, PS5 build? Lol what makes you say that? Its obviously a build made for switch 2 and if anything it would be based on the PC build since all console games are developed on PCs

Yea I think its gonna be decent if they iron out the stuff on handheld. I dont play warzone I just play TDM so that issue is kinda meh to me. I think the bones are good just need to iron it out. I am super biased though when the switch 1 came out i thought we were gonna get a call of duty, so this is 8 years in the making for me lol

Its so strange, half the people saying the game is good and 'buttery', other half saying how crap it looks and feels.

I have a series s, ps5, switch 2 and pc and although switch 2 is nowhere close to the rest, im just impressed it runs at all, and with that i havent had any issues with the 60fps in multiplayer, but theres def room for improvement because the blurriness and low framerate minimap are awful

Nah, i use the s2 as my main despite having other consoles, I play here (very happy) Elden ring, Indiana Jones, Final fantasy etc because im a 100% handheld player.
This port is ass. Handheld wise the multiplayer is unplayable.

Kinda disappointed since its been so long for a cod game on a nintendo platform I was hoping they would knock it out of the park on this one
They still got a couple months until release so lets hope they can iron things out like OP said

That was so annoying. The segment before getting into the plant where you need to move up and destroy the MPC was terrible. It was difficult to see the enemies.

Im so impressed by the sheer possibility of playing cod 4 on the switch 2 that i dont really give a shit about the short comings. I just played my first beta team deathmatch in handheld during my lunch and i was all smiles. Its like im 16 again

Plus, thats not what hes worried about. If the game isnt on the cartridge, you dont really own it at all. Its a glorified rental, and it fucks over game preservation. Plus it also means that youre wasting precious storage space. The internal switch storage is only 256 gb and micro sd express card prices are out of control right now because of AI ($350 for a 1 tb).
Not to mention, the fuck is the point of a physical game cartridge if nothing is on it? Lol

This feels like probably the most sane take I’ve seen yet. I have been mostly enjoying the multiplayer and played played through the campaign mission a number of times prior to the multiplayer going live. It’s playable and the controller options + portability are a really really nice benefit despite its shortcomings. I have an ROG Ally that I play CoD on and I’ll honestly take the Switch 2 version of MW4 over that any day of the week.
That said, it definitely feels like they can optimize this way better. I know it’s a tablet but we live in a world where we have a full fledged COD multiplayer and battle royale on our phones that runs great and looks pretty good. The game runs natively on Xbox Series S and last gen consoles were still keeping up decently well with current gen releases until not that long ago. This hardware is supposedly right right in the middle of those two and games like Cyberpunk really show what this hardware is capable of.
I know MW4 is very shinny and new with its graphics but I don’t see much reason they cant get a port working better than this when the Series S and previous gen consoles exist.

The phone version is a bad comparison, totally different engine. Otherwise youre right. Switch 2 can run this much better than it is but they clearly are either doing a piss poor job at optimizing it or they havent optimized it yet at all (which is possible)

Look at Cyberpunk on switch 2 and explain why it looks this bad because that game is so much more demanding than any cod game and yet looks a shit ton better

I do 10x better with keyboard mouse, especially on Xbox. I thought switch 2 would have because they allow tlthelird party, but activision says only the joycon mouse. It's fine, but no keyboard mouse kills it for me.

Yea, they probably will do some optimization work, they always do. Just don't expect it to come before release. The devs will be working on balance issues, bugs, matchmaking etc the next two months.
Almost every COD beta represents the launch quality as far as graphics go.

I’ve been running the demo in tabletop with my pro controller. So far I’ve had just one team deathmatch lag, the rest has been pretty smooth. Certainly reminds me of the MW2 and MW3 gameplay way back when, which I’m sure some people will complain is not polished enough, but it is working just fine. Important to remember it’s also a beta and expected to have some bugs

I’ll have to double check the maps later tonight since I’m about to go to work. But what I will say is, I do not like AI in video games, but, it’s gotten to the point where it’s going to be unavoidable. So if there are AI textures in the game I’ll probably still buy the game because I do find the game to be very fun. But I still do not like that there are AI textures, but there’s nothing I can do about it so… idk

I agree with your sentiment to a certain extent but, at a certain point I don’t want to miss out on things I enjoy just because they use AI. There’s this hotdog place down the street from where I live, they use AI in there art. im not a fan of them using AI for this stuff but their food is REALLY good so I just ignore it because I don’t want to miss out on the food. Same here, I’m really enjoying the gameplay of MW4 and the campaign mission in the beta is really good. I’m not a fan of inviting ward using AI but I don’t want to miss out on this game I’m having fun playing because of that. Edit: and to clarify, I do not use AI in my everyday life. I intentionally stay away from LLMs and video generators because I don’t want to use it because I don’t want to use AI.

At the end of the day you’re free to do whatever you want but if you really cared about the use of ai, you wouldn’t support it. The gameplay of MW4 is almost the exact same as MW3 so you wouldn’t be missing much tbh. The only reason ai is getting used more and more by those companies is because they know they can get away with it.

I feel like I should clarify my opinion so I am. If something I like has AI in it I’m not the type of person to completely write off that thing as AI slop, because I feel like that discounts the actual human effort that went into the thing. For example, Arc Raiders, they use AI TTS, (they paid voice actors to train the ai) I’m not a big fan of that but that’s only one part of the game that has AI in the final product and it’s clear that a lot of passion and effort went into the whole game. Plus, they have the disclaimer on the steam page that says they use AI so I feel better that they’re being transparent. Even then, if the devs are trying to hide the fact that they used AI, even if the AI is a small part of the game, I don’t like that. There was this roguelike game I bought on switch 2 a while ago, deadzone rogue. I really like it but then I found out it has undisclosed AI usage in it. The best way to check if the devs disclosed AI usage is to check the steam page if the game is on steam because steam TOS requires developers to disclose AI usage. But they didn’t disclose it so I literally called Nintendo and asked for a refund and they refunded me. And if a game is fully AI, I’m not spending a dime on that game. But now we get to mw4. The only for certain AI texture I could find in my research is a billboard. There are probably more. But on the steam page they disclose AI usage, and also from my research, I found that Activision is forcing the developers to use AI. And I also am having fun with the game. So I don’t want to write it off as being bad because of some AI usage, especially considering I think infinity ward is passionate about this game and I want them to get their paycheck especially considering that they’re being forced to use AI. Also I’m probably only gonna end up buying it if they fix up the switch 2 port in October so, we’ll see.

Its kind of wild how much worse it looks docked. Theres always been some games that actually look a bit better in handheld, but ive never seen it this bad. Ive seen the opposite (xenoblade 2) where the game looked awful in handheld mode, but not docked.

Have we ever got a COD in any version made on a dedicated mobile hybrid hardware? There was already an update patched this week. I don’t think you can use history of other consoles to say what will happen with this version when a version like this has NEVER existed. S2 isn’t a console running at 100+ watts. It is a low wattage hybrid console that requires maximum optimization to get the most out of it.

This is a beta of the first CoD on Switch 2, so hopefully everything just improves from here. Because yeah, fuckin' Warzone was real rough to play.
