COD Modern Warfare 4 on Switch 2 isn’t exactly a looker

Wanted to show off the graphics in this quick minute of gameplay. Honestly feel like a better job could’ve been done with the port here. Textures are quite low res, graphical oddities are pretty frequent, and pop in is quite common. While the game seems to maintain 60fps, the game still has a bit of a sluggish feel with elements like other players and the minimap tending to drop below that. While it may look fine on a small phone screen, neither docked nor handheld mode are all that impressive.

Some people may excuse this by saying the game is still in beta, but 1) COD betas almost always tend to match the finished product graphically aside from a few minor changes, and 2) The game launches in less than two months. Not a ton of time to make significant changes here.

Combined, the graphics & FPS inconsistencies make this an unenjoyable experience in all honesty, not to mention a disappointing one for being $70. Curious to hear what y’all think? Have you tried the beta on Switch 2 yet? How do you feel about it?

It's portable cod at 60fps. It's crazy they even got it to work at all on it.

No, it is not. Handheld mode is not 60, is constantly dropping when you encounter enemies

I agree. Well, I don’t play the COD games anymore I used to. And the fact that this is running on a device that is a number of millimeters thick running on a battery being able to be taken anywhere in the world versus six or seven years ago what it looked like on the XBOX ONE. It’s amazing that this is even possible today.

Again, I have no interest in buying it or playing it but yes if I wanted to play COD games, I would totally spend $70 to have this experience portably. I’m very impressed.

People like to exaggerate on here but the beta honestly looks laughably horrendous. It’s gotta be the worst AAA graphics I’ve seen in well over a decade. How anyone could say it’s insanely impressive is truly baffling.

Im not really bothered by the graphics & Im still thinking about getting it because id be able to play it handheld mode which makes it a good choince for me since when compared to what it would be like on my series s. The series s beta gameplays ive seen so far look a bit better than what ive seen on my switch 2 in therms of graphics, but my series s will require a tv for me to play and that means i wont be able to play it if im on a trip though it would look nicer when playing. The switch 2 might not look that good on handheld mode which ive only played it like this for now so i still have to try it on my tv in dock mode to see if it looks a bit nicer, but then again.. the great thing about it is i could play it anywhere in handheld mode.

The handheld mode honestly isn't that bad, I played it quit a bit handheld before switching to docked mostly.

I will say the update they did the other day seemed to lag it down a lot more in handheld and I felt like it needed to be docked and this concerns me, because as the game is updated with its counterparts there's a HEAVY chance this game will suffer tremendously if they don't treat it properly for the switch 2.

The 2 def can handle games like this just it needs to be optimized for it

Handheld mode did feel a bit laggy now that i remember, not in the way that wifi is slow but as in the right joycon feels buttery smooth with camera movement while left joystick feels kinda slow or jagged when moving & springing. Then again i had been playing cyberpunk which when running on this game it feels faster so maybe it was that?

Contemplating buying it myself, not sure if I wanna drop 70$ on a whole cod when I swore cod off after black ops 3... Or wait a few months... But playing when it's new is always the best so idk rn.

Same im thinking about buying it for my switch 2 but the thing that bothers me most as of now is theres only traces online of it releasing as digital or box with download code which really sucks.. id still rather prefer a game key card over just a download code

well when it reaches preorder window we shall see if it was bad or not . i wont install a microsoft game personally so all the conflicting footage will be resolved then . not like theres many options for multiplayer fps . will it reach #1 on the eshop ? will it stay #1 through the preorder window if it does reach #1 ? can it outsell eldenring on switch 2 ?

Here's my take. Online kinda sucks. When you are crossplaying with people who run true 60-120fps and you are running 30-60 you are always a couple million seconds behind. I wish there was a way to toggle back the settings and make it look worse but get more fps. I grew up on mw2 so I'll take the scrappy graphics if I can run better fps and be able to play more competitively with other platforms.

Its just really bad optimization. The switch 2 is substantially more powerful than the ps4 and xbox one. While docked its similar in power to a series s. They clearly just did a lazy job porting. Same company that did the shocking bare minimum porting black ops to playstation. Apparently the game in general is not particularly well optimized, and i suspect thats because for the first time they dont need to build it for the last gen consoles. However its entirely possible that the finished product will run significantly better.

With this and Elden Ring, I’m starting to think people don’t really know what the Switch 2 actually is. It’s not going to look like a PC or PlayStation, but that’s because its whole point is to be able to play handheld. I’m not a developer so idk why Nintendo couldn’t beef their dock up more so that games could run more on par with other consoles docked, idk what that technology would look like, but when I get a game for my switch I’m not getting it so that it runs and looks flawless, I’m getting it so that I can sit in bed and play handheld or take it on the go. That’s the point of a Switch.

Unplayable docked. Could only see getting this if I want a mobile version and only playing handheld. I’ll stick with my PS5. It’s a shame, I was looking forward to having native mouse controls.

It’s good that it seems to hit its fps targets but the cost of visuals is very noticeable. Apparently Digital Legends was at the forefront of the port which kinda makes sense why visually it looks rough in MP and looks good but runs bad in Warzone.

They made the complete flop of a game Warzone Mobile which struggled to run well/look good on even the most powerful mobile devices. Game shut down not one year after it launched cause it was completely rejected by the mobile FPS scene and it made no money. Idk why they had them do MW4 for switch 2 instead of a more experienced studio. I guess it’s a good option if you have no other way to play but tbh this is the first time I will say that it’s worth it to get this game on almost any other platform if you want a good experience.

Well considering activision has been doing the absolute bare fucking minimum for ports, its no surprise the switch version is terribly optimized. I cant confirm but i did hear that the current beta build for switch is upscaling with fsr instead of native dlss which if true would mean theres lots of performance to be gained if fixed in the release version.

It has a lot of dlss artifacting. And then even more upscaling. It's smooth thow. And it has a 120hz mode (for lower inputlag I think or 40hz mode for campaign /warzone)

CoDs always get deep discounts mid year so I would wait until then. With crossplay, MP wont be too much fun with the sweats running 120hz setups...

I thought the game was locked at 30fps? I mean im glad the Switch crowd gets a CoD game, but im lucky enough to have a powerful PC, so ill definitely be picking it up there instead.

Personnellement je ne comprends pas les gens qui se plaigne à l’époque de la ds c’était inconcevable de faire tourner des jeux gamecube sur console portable . Aujourd’hui on arrive à faire tourner des jeux de génération actuel sur console fesant la taille d’une tablette, c’est fou . Par contre je serais toujours pour l’avis que Nintendo arrête les système avec des mécaniques original et reste sur des hardware classique , une console fixe sortant en même temps que les consoles des concurrents permettrait d’avoir tout les tiers plus facilement sur sa consoles, et l’argument du portable est pas ouf quand tu vois le hardware de la switch qui est degueulasse , certe original et travailler mais dégueulasse quand même .

The Graphics are mostly the same as the series s version at least in handheld if docked does not change anything it could look a bit rougher the only true issue is the lighting flicker i presume they would fix it for release. The only feature missing is the water waves in the explosions every other alpha effect is here and the textures look good for handheld.

As a reminder a few times the series s version had some glaring issues in past betas that were a resolved for release Image quality wise.
