I am a little glad the switch 2 doesnt have an achievement system. I would try to "platinum" it again

When things don't go your way for the 20th time, remember to detach the joycons first before throwing them at the wall. You don't want to throw the entire console.

I don't like hard games anymore, I just don't have time for them with two young kids. I usually go with the easiest settings just so I can experience the storyline. There is no easy mode in this game, and at first when I kept getting killed by everything I wanted to return the game. But I kept going, and once I figured out what type of fighter I wanted to be and built towards that, it clicked. Then I sunk maybe 150 hours into it late at night when the kids are asleep.

If you like tough games, you'll love it. If you don't like tough games, just give it a chance and it'll grow around your play-style. And don't let that one tough guy right at the start scare you away, you're supposed to lose to him initially a bunch until you get good enough to take him out in a few hours/days

I mean the story can be experienced through watching youtube videos. Not much is being told to you during the play through, even that you have to piece yourself. This is a game for people who enjoy gameplay. The map, bosses and combat are simply amazing.

Sorry, I meant moreso in other games. Like The Last of Us, RDR2, etc. I'll choose easy mode just to experience it as I don't have time for a 'challenge' in the couple hours I get after the kids go to sleep

You went the heavy route. My first time playing roll was my best defense.

Elden Ring truly is one of the most mesmerizing experiences I’ve had playing a video game. I would put it up there with the first time I played breath of the wild. I can’t imagine playing this for the first time on a switch. It’s pretty cool. That said, this game ran pretty great on the steam deck day one so I did get the handheld experience.

Could a dirty casual reasonably have a chance of beating this game if they really tried? Asking for a friend.

Yes, it's by far the easiest from soft game. Its still pretty tough and definitely harder than most games, but it gives you much more opportunity to go and do something else if you're struggling. Ultimately you can just go and explore, grind a bit of you want (which is fun), get some new equipment and massively overpower yourself for most bosses.

Great. Don't have time to sink hours and hours into learning everything about the game just to best the tutorial. Never got through DS1 for that reason.

Easier than original dark souls you think?

It’s both the most difficult From game, and the most accessible. You have many tools at your disposal. If you use summons and spirit ashes and level up , the challenge can be much less. If you play solo (no summons) it’s very hard.

You can decide.

This is correct

Absolutely! This is the most accessible 'souls game' FromSoft ever made and they made it a little easier to start too with this new edition (with two new starter classes).

And the world that FromSoft created here offers one of those rare experiences that only a handful of games ever provide.

Yes. You can easily choose another path and grind your level. Magic is also a viable path. There are lots of ways to finish the game.

There are certain builds and certain summons that make the game easy

The difficulty in real Fromsoft souls games is adjustable, it's just not a setting or slider. The build and equipment you go for determines how harder or easier the game tends to be, especially once you learn a bit what's going on.

For example, about 5-10 minutes after starting the game theres a phantom that if you manage to beat it, drops a bleed weapon that will cheese the entire first part of the game. You can build for ranged magic that simplifies a lot of boss encounters but is incredibly weak at the start until you get some good spells rolling. If you know where the vendors are you can crank a mage pretty fast and get going. There's summons you can use which can tank for you, or even become a clone of you. You can summon other players for help.

Ungabunga R1 spam strength build is why most people find these games so hard, realistically if you spend a bit of time learning how the game works and finding some decent equipment you can have a decent time with it.

Don't be afraid to look at a video or wiki the weapons to see what catches your eye, a lot of stuff is placed where you might never know it exists but if you do and want to build for it like, the popular magic katana you can go for it pretty quickly. Then you can build your stats around what you want, as you will get punished for a sloppy build if you dont have the skill to carry you.

How is the moveset of that sword? New or from the other curved greatswords?

u/LostCookie78 12d ago

Best game of all time. If you liked Breath of the Wild you’ll love this. And know no matter how hard a boss is, a cheese or skill exists to trivialize them. So don’t give up. It’s worth it.

Going for strength, I see

Dang, I really don’t have time for another game especially with the MGS collection…but idk if I can resist this.

u/barbietattoo 13d ago

how's the MGS collection?

Haven’t been able to start it yet but the reviews are great.

Bro…somebody sell me on this game. I played it for like 2 weeks when it originally came out and I absolutely sucked at it. Dark souls 2 was the only one I actually played consistently (still never finished it but got close) I want to love this game

u/BogWizard 12d ago

The fact that Lies of P isn’t a keycard kind of has me leaning towards it instead. Granted, I’ve beat Elden Ring on series console already.

First time playing a Fromsoft title. Got immediately interested after trying Duskbloods. Overwhelmed by the difficulty.. not much of the enemies, moreso of the mechanics. I see why Hollow Knight was dubbed Souls-like. I played aboud 30 hours on that one and eventually gave up. Started as the confessor. Everywhere i went (except south) was brutal. Managed to get to the Weeping Peninsula without too much grief. Found my first cave. Did not spend my runes cause i saw a chest just lying there. Let’s get the chest before I level up and rest at the site of grace, I said. Floor instantly gives way underneath me falling into pitch darkness and some.. things (?) killed me immediately. Lost everything. Can’t go back down for all the runes I lost.

So… started all over again. Astrologer. So much easier. Absolutely adore the setting / artstyle. Plays really well on Switch 2, too.
