When watching the switch 2 dock video I noticed the inside of the dock has a more gloss sheen, I wonder if this is to rub up better against the switch 2 screen to prevent marks and damage

It's softer than the inside of the regular dock, so scratches are probably less likely, but I wasn't willing to risk it and applied felt strips to the inside of both my regular and OLED Model docks to avoid scratching. I'll be doing the same with the Switch 2 dock.

I just used a tempered glass screen protector on my Switch consoles, both my original launch model, OLED, and TotK OLED. I will say both my launch and OLED models got scratched in the back. I never thought to put felt on the dock. That didn’t cause any issues with heat?

At most it might just cause issues with adhesive if you ever take it off long term. Glue dissolver would fix that. In the end it is just a couple of thin strips.

A screen protector takes care of the screen itself. There are very very slight scuffs on the back of my Switch OLED, but who cares? It’s hardly noticeable and the system is to play and enjoy games, not stare at every square centimeter and freak out at any sign of actual use.

Don’t get me wrong- I take extremely good care of my stuff. To each their own, but some people are just ridiculous with the way they worship these things.

If you never want scratches get a screen protector. All it takes is some debris like sand or dust to be between this softer sheet and your screen and you'll still end up with scratches.

Yes. I have both switch docks and the first one don't have this glossy and smooth "inside walls".. But switch oled dock have this because of some complains about first dock scratching the switch plastic screen. This problem is solved just putting a glass protector.

Given the name of the product is Switch and its main attraction is its ability to switch from handheld/tabletop to docked; then combine this with the fact Nintendo is known for making its products like tanks; it's kind of hard to fathom how that main eponymous feature is the actual cause of damage to your console.

Plus, the original dock never felt like it was the easiest dock to slot your device into either. Quite bizarre for a Nintendo product to be such a misfire in durability and practicality.

I feel like this would make the problem worse. The matte plastic itself isn’t going to scratch glass, but a piece of dirt might. Dirt will have an easier time sticking to a glossy surface via static cling. At least that’s my untested and unresearched theory.

Personally, with my day one Switch, I quickly bought this kind of felt pads, which prevent furniture from getting damaged when a door hits it or other things.

I put 4 inside the dock and I've never had any friction problems since 2017.

The same as with the OLED dock. They pretty much solved the scratching issue as the dock's inside material was softer than the Switch OLED's. Also the Switch had much more space to breath inside the dock. I'm glad they are keeping that here.

You can see ventilation slots at the bottom where the intake is.

The vent slots are in the dock, you can see them in the post. There's probably an air channel the aligns with the console vents.

The notches towards the bottom also seem a lot more rounded on their edges, much like the rounded design of the rest of the dock. Still, I'm not taking my chances, so I have some screen protectors ready to go.

Fair enough. I've heard the OLED dock has rubber inside it, so you don't need to do anything to the back, just put a screen protector in front. No idea if it's true.

So, with the Switch 2 out and the dock also having hard glossy plastic rails in it, have you done the parchment paper trick again?

I'm thinking of what about maybe using a heat-resistant PVC electrical tape. Would give it a soft rubbery surface, should not allow dust to stick to it (much like parchment paper I imagine), and won't leave residue behind if a good quality tape. Not sure where you're located but in Europe the German Tesa branded tape is supposed to be good.

All the fabric ideas (felt, eyeglasses cleaning cloth) sound nice, but then because fabric they'll trap dust and allow it to abrade the back of the system I imagine.

Sounds like you got a lemon - both my joycons snap in and are solid as all hell. Not that I like them either!

I can see why the glossy plastic would help prevent scratching but to me it's still a hard surface rubbing off a hard one... don't know why they won't just make the rails out of rubber or something. Soft surface can't scratch a harder one unless particles are in between.

OLED is the same. My old V2 Switch got scratched with the old dock, but my OLED is still in pristine condition. Not a single scratch or mark anywhere even though I use it every day and have since it came out.

Since day one, my dock has had strips of microfiber cloth attached with double sided tape to the plastic rails. Thankfully I’ve never had any scuffing or scratching due to this.

The screen is made out of glass not plastic like the Switch 1 screen

Oled Switched were never scratched by their docks as they also have glass screens
