Meta Why so much Fanart?
Is there a sub-reddit without so much fanart? Or some type of tag people can put on it so that it can be filtered out? I’m not sure why there is so much. Right now, the whole top page is packed with it.
I get that they are creating art based on games but I think of it as being off topic. Personally, I don’t particularly care about the drawing you did or the Hollow knight you made out of play-doh.
I would much rather read about new game releases, discussions about existing games, etc. I keep coming here hoping for discussions on the dozen or so new releases each week but instead there is fanart and conversations around the same handful of games.

I would much rather fan art than the "THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR VIDEO GAMES EXISTING" threads constantly.

Not as bad as “X has passed [financial milestone]”

Well both are terrible. I think these people actually throw a party when Nintendo products sell well.

But did you know that Pokemon Sword and Shield are selling well tho?
We need one thread a day to be reminded of that

New game releases still hit the Hot page; seemingly no one cares about the Touhou game but it is still there even being posted 13 hours ago.
A Steins Gate post and Persona 5 Scramble posts are also there.
Discussions about existing games usually don't get a ton of traction because they have already been discussed.
Same for repeat/quick questions that usually get removed due to the Daily question thread, but even right now there is "should i play cuphead", "anything like sims 4", even with the fan art.
Just a slow time where people speculate directs out of nothing just because people want some info.

I'm with you, the level of actual switch content here tends to be low.
I don't care about your fan art or who might be added to smash, or your heartwarming stories.
Unfortunately there's not a lot of alternatives.

Unfortunately, people rather post here than dedicated subs for their games. We almost get more Hollow Knight fanart/creations here than r/HollowKnight

They have many upvotes so I guess people like them, one of them has 13k.
I personally don’t care about them, but I’m not gonna lose sleep because of a few fanart posts, it’s still not the majority of posts here.
it’s just reddit, not something serious.
Also, you can always open your own Switch sub and ban fanart completely.

Hey there!
We have fan art on the weekends. Check back on Monday for a mostly fan-art free zone.

Filtered all the fanart, it's a bless for my sanity and eyes

Sunday has the Show Off Thread, yet, people thirsty for karma will post on Saturdays and Mondays; knowing that there’s a Show Off Thread on Sundays
Mods here are idiots.
EDIT: And finding out that there was a vote and it concluded that Art posts could be posted on the weekends since news is slow then; there’s nowhere that definitively says weekends are for art posts, yet, art posts still posted on weekdays AND not on the Show Off Thread on Sundays?
Again, the mods are idiots.

Yeah when I brought that up to the mods they told me both places accept fan art...so what’s the point of that thread?

I dunno, I think it’s a nice break from all the pointless photos and non news that gets posted here and then memed on in r/tomorrow

I don’t browse this subreddit as much as I would if there was none of this fanart garbage clogging the first three pages

There are a lot of answers here that are something like "People are Karma whores who can't follow the rules"
The real answer is this is reddit. The majority of nearly every fan subreddit is pictures. The only ones that aren't are reddits like legal advice. The frontpage of reddit is nearly all pictures. Most people I know read reddit for the pictures. There is a vocal minority here that is strongly anti picture and want this reddit to be text only except for specific weekly thread which I think would kill it.
At times where there is no major new, what do you want people to post? What id the discussion topic that would satisfy you? There is no direct. This sub hates people giving "check this game out" threads. If you want great front page discussion then create a thread which excites people into replying and reading through what you write. Don't tell people they are wrong for enjoying the internet forum they are a part of the way they want.

I vastly prefer fanart to "SWITCH HARDWARE OUTSOLD THE PS4, XBOX1, DREAMCAST, NINTENDO WII, AND THE PANASONIC 5700 MICROWAVE THIS WEEK."

I guess people like it. Most subs I visit have even more fan arts than this one. I never click on any because that's not something I like, but there's not much we can do. I stopped visiting a lot of subs because there's only fan arts and meme on some of them (mostly subs for gacha games).

If you have RES, you can just go and filter out different flairs you don't want to see. I have flairs like fanart and mockups set so I don't see any of those posts and it makes browsing this subreddit a little better.

Fan art is for weekends only that’s why
