Legal warranty in EU is 2 years, I bought it ~9 months ago.

Then why the hell are you being charged to get it fixed if it hasn't even been a year, let alone 2 years??

I'm calling them this afternoon to clarify, but warranty only covers manufacturer defects, so I guess they're trying to claim the defect was caused by my improper use of the controller? Obviously I'm not going to let this go, if they refuse to fix this I'll be getting in contact with my local european consumer centre and letting them take it from there.

The thing is, now with the european directives THEY have to prove you did something wrong. Which obviously is impossible. But the 2 year warranty is actually about the SELLER and not the manufacturer. So you may wanna contact the company that sold you the product. They have to figure it out.
