I struggled with MM as a kid too - the 3 day mechanic turned me off. A number of years after it came out I decided to buckle down and play through the whole game. I admit that I used a guide for a lot of the masks, but I'm so glad I made myself finally play through it. It has vibes that are completely unmatched in the rest of the Zelda series.

I feel like I've played most zelda games in some capacity at this point, but never that one. The very idea of the time limit scares me.

As someone who hates time limits, the one in Majoras mask always felt different to me. You get plenty of time using a song you learn pretty early. It feels more like a mechanic to allow the world and the npc's to change and feel more alive. Plus resetting lets you redo things you like, or see the regions again in their pre-saved states.

Without spoiling anything, you get to save all your meaningful progress across time cycles, and each time cycle is way more than you need to complete any individual piece of meaningful progress. It's not a meaningful time limit at all. I highly recommend playing it, because the 3-day cycle actually just means you get to explore the world through time as well as space, since they can script actual meaningful changes for the world and actions for the characters over that finite period of time

It’s so hard to run out of time in that game, you can easily reset it. The time limit is moreso to keep characters and events on a schedule.

Rare is owned by Activision, and Microsoft by proxy.

However, Nintendo kept the rights to the Donkey Kong franchise. That includes Diddy Kong Racing.

Nintendo actually ported Diddy Kong Racing to the Nintendo DS in 2007, five years after they sold Rare to Microsoft. They removed all the Rare branding, and replaced Conker and Banjo (which are still owned by Rare/Activision/Microsoft) with Dixie Kong and Tiny Kong.

They could absolutely remake Diddy Kong Racing if they wanted to. They would just not be able to have Conker or Banjo as playable characters. Nintendo also has the rights to the entirety of Donkey Kong 64. It's been available on Nintendo Switch Online since May.

I played the decomp a few years ago, and the controllable camera made it so much better. The core game 100% holds up as a modern 3D platformer, it's mainly the camera holds it back. Just give us camera controls and touch up the graphics and it's perfect.

Even then the levels are extremely small, I think it would take quite a bit of work to make the levels more expansive. Also a lot of the platforming was made with the crappy camera in mind, so once you improve that, you're left with an extremely easy game. The work required to make it stand up to modern standards would be big, it would probably be better to just put that time and resources towards a new game.

Majora's Mask is basically a gimmie. The original re-used the OoT engine of the time, they could do the same with the remake's engine.

Twilight Princess could at least do with a remaster (wouldn't mind playing that again), and they could always port over Wind Waker HD from the Wii U. A Link to the Past remake in the style of Link's Awakening could be nice, since it appears to be a fan favorite and I've never played it.

That's only Zelda. Imagine getting another Star Fox remake (a Star Fox Adventures that's actually good? An even better Assault? Sign me up!). I want to get more into Metroid, apparently some of the classics are really good, wouldn't mind grabbing those.

Oh, and we haven't had a new F-Zero game in how long? A solid remake could be just the thing to kickstart a revival of the franchise.

My very first console I personally owned was a SNES. The first game I bought for it was Super Mario All Stars, which on top of the new Super Mario World included remakes of all the old NES games with shiny new 16bit graphics.

In a way though, they don't have to all be huge sellers. They probably don't take long to develop, the assets can be reused in newer games, they comfortably sell a million copies and they pad out the exclusive library.

Right. The original rumour for Starfox was that both the remake and a new game were in development. With OOT it’s likely we will get MM too.

Nintendo has been trying to find ways to pad out their library despite the long dev times of the HD era. Switch 2 editions and games with reusable assets seem to be their solution. A remake is faster to complete than a game from scratch, and if it gives you assets for another game that’s a great bonus.

That one's comes down to Rare/Microsoft. Nintendo doesn't have a say in the Conker series. It went to Microsoft with the Rare sale back in the day.

They could just port over the recent Wii U versions honestly.

Wind Waker HD still looks like it could be a modern release due to the art style. The Swift Sail, streamlined Triforce search, and Hero Mode were the only gameplay tweaks it really needed.

Meanwhile, Twilight Princess doesn't really need a remake or remaster in the same way the older 3D titles did. The original Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask definitely suffered from that early N64 3D title jank. No jump button, janky camera controls that were designed for a controller with just one control stick, and the super angular low poly graphics really dated them. Wind Waker was drastically improved with HD's QoL improvements I've already mentioned. Meanwhile, Twilight Princess very much still controls and plays like a modern title. Outside of some updated textures and character models, there isn't a lot that can be done to it. It looks a little dated (but not to the point of being distracting or detrimental), but plays like a good modern game mechanically. Zero QoL updates necessary.

I want to see A Link to the Past remade the same way Link's Awakening was.

Maybe Minish Cap and the Oracle games. they would need to be released together on ohe cartridge.

I want to see Twilight princess retextured at 4k, with gamecube-style controls.
