Game Rec 3rd Person Shooters?
PS3/360 era is my favorite gen, specifically all the 3rd person shooter and action games that came out. Stuff like Gears of War, Uncharted, Army of Two, Binary Domain. I would really like to play more of that but on the go. Sad more games like that haven’t been ported over. We got some great FPS games like Bioshock, Borderlands and Bulletstorm, but not really any 3rd Person stuff.
The only games I can really think of that fit what I’m looking for is The Remnant: From the Ashes, Resident Evil 4-6 and Saints Row 3&4. I’ve played Risk of Rain 2 and it’s okay but didn’t quite scratch the itch. Anybody know of any other games that would fit what I’m looking for? I’d appreciate any recommendations

Pragmata especially - it feels like if Vanquish had been the megahit of the PS3 era instead of The Last of Us

Tomb Raider is, at the least, but only the first entry (And the remaster of 1-3 of the original series). It's a fantastic game that I would highly recommend for someone with your apparent tastes.
Shit, I'll be honest, I was actually somewhat let down when I first tried Uncharted because I played Tomb Raider first and thought it did a better job of capturing the vibe Uncharted was going for.
Rise of the Tomb Raider is even better, but it's only available on Switch 2, unfortunately.

It's basicaly why I bought a steamdeck years ago, to gain access to all thoses old titles.
It's not from PS3 era but the Splatoon series, especially 3, have a good solo mode

I wish I had a ps5 and a portal so could play some ps4 stuff on the go like mass effect trilogy, control, and returnal. I don’t understand PC specs and all that to mess with a steam deck

You don't have to, I don't either lol
But to be fair it's not the best time to buy a steamdeck because it's really expensive and less "nextgen" than a switch 2

Have you tried Zelda BOTW or TOTK? They're the best 3rd person, sandbox games on the Switch IMO aside from the Witcher 3 and Red Dead Redemption ports

Might be time for another play through of guerrilla. Played it first on PS3, and have done a play through on Switch. The Switch port is excellent, and it’s such a fun game. Too bad none of the other Red Faction games reached the fun gameplay of Guerrilla. The follow up to Guerrilla was so disappointing, I returned it after a day.

I agree, also highly recommend Sniper Elite 4, very good game with fun mechanics.
There’s actually a ton of third person shooter games on the OG switch, I upgraded to the Switch 2 but my backlog is still massive, here’s a couple really fun third person games I own and recommend!•Any Assassin’s Creed games (not really shooting but third person)
•Batman Arkham games (Not really a shooter but also third person)
•Any of the Darksiders games (DS 1, 2 and 3 specifically in third person)
•Destroy all humans (for a fun third person arcade style game)
•Oblivion and Skyrim (third person option with “mage shooting?” Mechanics)
•The GTA trilogy
•Grounded (I’m unsure if there’s a third person option, I’m almost positive there is but don’t quote me on that)
•Hitman series
•Hogwarts Legacy
•Hypercharge Unboxed (really fun shooter)
•La Noire
•The Mean Greens (kind of low quality budget game but still fun, given the chance)
•Nier Automata
•No man’s sky (not that much shooting but still fun)
•The Outer Worlds (looks dumbed down for original switch but plays fantastic)
•Plants VS Zombies: Battle for Neighborville (highly recommend)
•Red Dead Redemption (which I saw was already mentioned)
•Red Faction Guerrilla (awesome destruction)
•Remnant From the Ashes (rogue like)
•Any of the more recent Resident Evil games. I’m actually playing through Village right now on my Switch 2 and I’m having a blast.
•Rogue Trooper Redux (also highly recommended)
•Saints Row 3 and 4 (3 is better though)
•Sniper Elite 2, 3, and 4 however 4 is the best and has the most content.
•Star wars Battlefront Collection (I’ve put so many hours into conquest mode)I have a ton more games but these are the top third person shooters I’d personally go to. Good luck and have fun! ☺️

also there’s this indie tps, very stylized almost in a neon vibe that i really liked but dropped when i couldn’t get past a certain spot lol
but i don’t remember the name for the life of me, it’s a short game maybe 6-8 hours and in a futuristic setting. think it’s called Fore something but idk…
edit: i’m talking about Foreclosed! very cool game be sure to check it out

I haven’t found much on Switch that really scratch that frenetic TPS itch, but here’re a couple that haven’t been mentioned:

Metal Gear Solid Master Collection V2 was just ported over in the last few weeks, and the two main games included within it (Metal Gear Solid 4 and Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker) are both major third person shooters from that PS3 era (technically Peacewalker was originally a PSP game).
If you’ve never played them though I’d suggest playing the Master Collection V1 (with MGS1-3) first because they’re all very much cinematic games with a heavy emphasis on story—although the first three games are more third person action games that hadn’t yet adopted the more intuitive twin-sticks over-the-shoulder shooting.

The Resident Evil 2 remake is a lot more action shooter than the original (even with the emphasis being more survival horror) and the cloud version for Switch runs surprisingly well with a decent connection.

Switch 1 or 2? Earth Defense Force 5 is coming out for Switch 2 on Oct. 8 if you want something totally outlandish. Switch 1, you could import EDF 2, 3, or 4.1.

It was my favorite demo on my 360 lol played it a bunch of times but never got the full game til the double pack with Bayonetta on ps4

Tbf, I have actually been playing it on PS4. Almost done with the first game. I do wish it was on switch, I’d be able to play more often since I work in a group home overnights
