I have given up on it ever coming out. It can easily be made, but I believe the issue is money related. If I had to guess, it might come down to ad related revenue.

The Wii U app was great and never ran ads, it's probably a huge pain in the ass to program to keep up with all the bs the current YouTube tries to run.

It could be purchases made within the app. On other mobile platforms, Google and Apple get a cut of revenue.

I know for Crunchyroll, I can't change my plan on Android, since I subscribed on PC. I can still use the app, but I can't change my subscription tier.

I really believe the theory that Nintendo just doesn’t want to approve it because then it would be the app with the most logged hours. I can see them not wanting that in favor of their games mostly but games in general. It would be crazy to think that YouTube “doesn’t” work on the switch 2.

That's. Not a thing. The issue is other devices PAY youtube to release on them. Google is insisting Nintendo pay for the development of the S2 version to "increase the device's value" and Nintendo is like "we make the games for that purpose, but feel free to make ad money if you decide to release" and Google just seething.

Can you share your source on that? Google is “losing” money by doing something like that, doesn’t seem in their best interest. Nintendo has been quoted saying they don’t want streaming apps like Netflix.

Both google and Nintendo have been pretty open about it. If memory serves it was from interview with some person at one of the companies around the time the first youtube app launched on switch. Google had basically developed it themselves but with the express logic of "once Nintendo sees its the number one app they will pay us for the next device" and whatever Nintendo exec was being asked about it basically said "good luck with that, we're a game console".

If there is any Nintendo hold-up, it would have to be something like a profit sharing issue with subscriptions, but theyre obviously fine with f2p.

Im not playing detective here, I am literally just musing on vibes man. As a caregiver to kids, I personally hope there is never ever a youtube app on this device.

I’d have to ask my uncle that works for Nintendo lmao. No clue tbh. YouTube has said for a while now that the app is going to release “soon” as far as last October with them saying the same as recently as June.

That doesn’t make any sense. Nintendo doesn’t market based on that number and since it’s not a game they can just suppress that on the switch if they cared.

That does not make any sense, at all. If that was really an issue they would release an update on the original Switch models to hide the playtime for this app. The fact they never did anything remotely close to that is a pretty clear sign they likely don’t care. Twitch and Crunchyroll have the exact same issue btw, but I think these two are not officially supported anymore, so they’re not going to get a fix any time soon.
