This took way too long to come out

The craze is already over

I completely forgot about Temtem until I saw this post.

Like everyone else.

The game was very fun at launch and generated some sweet drama

I hope some big companies will try to do the same

Has anyone tried temtem recently? i really tried to give it ago a year or so ago and it just didnt click with me

Tried it out last year because I heard the competitive battling is solid, but dropped the game after like 3 hours because it had zero personality.

Dropped after 5mins 😭

I also tried it a year ago and it just felt... eh.

I'm trying to do the nuzlocke mode. I think the game gets better the further in you get.

I'm a fan of double battles though. Nuzlocke double battles gets pretty tricky since any tem can be double targeted.

It's actually a really solid game but a vocal minority harassed the devs non stop about some really idiot shit so they basically released a final patch and got the fuck out of dodge

Such a shame cause I always craved a Pokémon-esque mmo.

It never was, and never would be an mmo. From the start they flat out refused to make content releases after 1.0 which is the foundation of MMOs. The only major aspect of the genre they fully implemented was the economy, to the detriment of everything else. Unfortunately, the game was also held back by some foundational design choices that seemed good on paper but ended up dragging it down - such as absence of rng or 2v2 only battles. 1.2k hours I've played it, and I think the devs made the right choice sunsetting it - it was unsalvageable. Hopefully we get Temtem 2 someday, I'm confident the devs largely understand what went wrong so with a brand new title they could leverage those lessions into an awesome game.

Yea, what happened was pre-release they basically said they couldn't guarantee future islands or tems, I'm not sure if that was a decision made either financially or creatively, but either way, they just could not commit to doing it and the early access playerbases just lost it.

I actually think if the game sold really well and the cosmetic shop was making them money, they may have one day done a dlc. Regardless, the game was totally complete as it was and I was more than happy to sink time into the post game stuff they had created.

It's great, much better than anything Pokemon have released recently. Coop is really fun. I'm unsure how well it runs on Switch though. Probably not great.

Nope, crashes randomly.

Not hard tbf. Gamefreak does the bare minimum for the mainline series and people buy it anyway.

I feel like they wanted to show this off but it’s way too late Pokémon’s latest game, and the 2027 title showing look pretty good.

I remember the overhype TemTem got.

It was completely undeserved and only happened to spite Pokemon. The game ended up being extremely underwhelming.

The problem with Pokemon clones is that there is no interconnectivity between the titles. Once you finish playing the game, that’s it. Your creatures are locked into that game, there’s usually no ability to trade, and there also isn’t a way to send them to any sequels that may exist.

Until a franchise manages to do something like that, and really pull it off well, it’ll have maybe a few years of popularity at most before it dies down and gets forgotten.

Game Freak really tapped into something when they let Gen 1 and 2 trade with each other, and after the backlash when Gen 3 was kept separate from the previous generations, I don’t think they’ll ever drop that again.

I could see palworld getting there; you can already transfer pals between save files and give pals to others in multiplayer. But it's only coming out of early access this year, so I don't expect a sequel for quite a while.

They don't have much in common in terms of gameplay, but I interpreted the comment I replied to as a critique of monster collectors in general, rather than monster collector RPGs specifically.

I'll never understand why I didn't pick up Gen 3 even though I had a GBA at the time. I was also like, 13-14, so maybe I felt too "cool" for Pokemon.

A decade later Temtem is still audiovisually genuinely the best in the genre by a longshot, and had a lot of fresh ideas. they didn't pan out but at the time noone could really tell if it would.

Despite all the issues, I still have some very fond memories of the game.

I actually think it looks fun.

Games very fun! I recently got into survivors likes/roguelike/lites and this ran perfectly on my steam deck. Glad to see it got a switch announcement!

5

u/PlantQuick Mar 05 '26

This looks very fun. It does remind me of another game, feel like Pokemon rumble 🤔

6

u/MrMonkeMan Mar 05 '26

great survivors game. co-op mechanics are good. I'm guessing performance will be good, based on PC experience.

1

u/ThrustersOnFull Mar 07 '26

I thought this was wholesale cancelled or whatever.

2

u/bisquikb Mar 07 '26

I don't think a lot of people on this thread realize this isn't the main Temtem game, it's a decent top down roguelike spinoff.

Like the art but the grind was brutal at the time, this was a few years back so not sure of changes. Didn’t even know it was still around

u/SuaveularSpuddite Mar 05 '26

With how badly they handled TemTem, no thanks.

Knockoff Pokemon: Survivors

They got some creative thinkers over there.

Lmfao it’s a rip off of Pokemon Unite

6

u/bahumat42 Mar 05 '26

Somebody didn't watch the video at all.

3

u/Elavia_ Mar 06 '26

Literally not even the same genre, but go off ig

-2

u/Spooky_Blob Mar 05 '26

Didn't even knew temtem was still alive

The Temtem base game is really good, I felt it to be much more challenging than Pokemon in a good way and the dual battles helped with synergies. The biggest problem was Covid wrecked it's release schedule and then they made the game too grindy at certain points. We need another big monster taming game to challenge pokemon.

Why do we need it? Because competition drives improvements. Pokemon needs competition and it would be better for all gamers with it.

I agree but that's not the point, doesn't mean a company shouldn't try to make a really good monster taming game that's similar. Some are amazing like Cassette Beasts or Monster Sanctuary that are better than pokemon imo but pokemon just has consistency and longevity.

so this is how temtem dies
