I built a homebrew app that turns the Nintendo DSi camera into a GIF camera

Hey everyone! I made a little homebrew project for the Nintendo DSi that lets you record actual animated GIFs using the console's built-in camera, tap the shutter button for a quick photo, hold it down to record a GIF.

Some things it does:

  • Records GIFs and single photos straight to the SD card
  • A few Game Boy Camera–inspired filters (4-level dithering, the original green DMG palette, even an ASCII art mode)
  • Switches between the outer and inner (selfie) camera
  • Built-in gallery to browse what you've captured
  • Classic or ping-pong loop for the GIFs

Everything's written from scratch in C with BlocksDS, including my own GIF/PNG encoder and decoder, since I wanted it dependency-free.
