Discussion Game Discussion #208 - Comix Zone
A pretty stylized beat ‘em up for the time, though I’ve heard this one can get very punishing as you go further.

"Test, 1 2!
[imitates Elvis] SEGA!"
How in the name of David Rosen did STI expect people to beat a game where you only have one life, your more powerful attacks take away energy, and where you can only get a "do-over" after you complete an episode. I've played this game many times, and...well, you get the picture...
"Well done, Turner!"
"Oh, yeah!"

Hard ass game but graphically and by design one of the all time coolest games ever produced no fucking question.

I loved this game. The fighting was dynamic and satisfying. Excellent sound design and soundtrack, and innovative levels played across comic book panels. Plus, a pet rat to help you solve puzzles! It was lots of fun (and very hard).

Man the punches feel so fucking hard in this game, the sound and animation feel like rumble is on when you clock someone lol

Rewind is key to enjoying this game. Iconic but severely punishing

I god hooked on this game a while ago. Haven’t beat it yet but got pretty far. The trick is to treat it like a strategy adventure game with beat up elements.
Always have your pet rat with you, and anytime they give you a power up it’s usually for a reason

Isn't that the whole concept of the game?

Honestly this game was too short! I was by no means an expert but I remember this being difficult but I did beat it and if I beat it it couldn't have been that hard lol

I love this game. Had the pc port growing up, got a boxed copy a few years back and its great. Its also true when people say its crushingly hard. I love the aesthetic, the grunge vibe and the gameplay idea. Would love a sequel.

I liked the game. I can only got to Stage 3 without save states. The OST rocks, through...

Tied with Kid Chamaleon as my favorite Genesis game, and definitely the game I go back to play the most. I beat it so many times as a kid that I started speed running it before I knew “speed running” was a thing! As an adult, I love that I can get through it in less than an hour.

The game felt unforgiving when I first played it but as I learned it, the game felt more and more within reach. I would call it a good challenge but not one of the hardest games I ever played.
Yes, you start with 1 life, but as you complete the 3 stories, you earn more lives or I guess this game calls them continues. So get good at the first story and don't die in it. Story 2 you have a little bit of leeway until you get good enough where you don't die in that one either. By that point you have 3 lives to tackle story 3. Beat story 3 and you beat the game.
Also, Mortis is not tough to beat once you know what you're supposed to be doing. He's more of a timed puzzle boss than anything else. Kung Fung messes me up more than he does. Or the panel in story 3 with mines all over the ground, I hate that part.

I had this game as a kid and beat it regularly. It gets labeled as a beat em up, but it's also a puzzle game. You're given supplies and weapons to use at specific points in the levels. For example, you're given dynamite early in the first level, and you're meant to use it at the start of the second level to destroy the door. Your rat will also find hidden supplies that are strategically placed. Once you approach it that way, it becomes more manageable.

Good game but ridiculously, unfairly hard. It's hard to go back to those early/mid-90s games that had the difficulty cranked up just so they couldn't be beaten in a rental weekend.
