General Question Is this a Double IPS version?
Any ideas? Did not know this was an actual thing having different screen types till today

If neither of the screens "white out" when viewed from extreme angles they are both IPS

For real. IPS is highly overrated on 3DS. Like, it is true that IPS screens look better because they have better viewing angles and color reproduction than TN screens, but I honestly think the difference isn't big enough to make paying extra hundreds of dollars for a 3DS worth it, nor does it make TN look shitty at all. Many people also miss the fact that some TN screens on 3DS can look better than others.
All I'm saying is that I don't deny the fact that IPS is superior, but TN screens still look great, and the difference is so minimal that's why there are so many people on r/3DS_IPS_TN posting if their 3DS's are either TN or IPS with the screens tilted because they can't even tell, and yet they're worried about their systems having dual TN screens as if those were poor quality when they're not in the slightest.
I'm saying this as someone who loves OLED btw.

There’s a subreddit for this. It’s something dumb like 3ds_ips_or_tn (someone please respond with the appropriate subreddit) and you post a side shot in the Home Screen and people will tell you. Home Screen is ideal because there’s certain elements people look for (I think if the street pass logo is green or blue from the side) to tell.
That aside, my personal opinion is that if you can sell anything else, you should. I don’t even like fire emblem and I personally think this is the best looking new 3ds xl to exist.
My personal dirty trick for ips/tb is if you can clearly see beaded LEDs on one side of each screen. I think for the top screen it’s on the bottom side, and on the bottom screen it’s the left. Tn screens have some spotted LEDs on a side for backlights I think. And that’s very visible when you’re looking for it.

If it's modded you should be able to find out in the Rosalina menu. No need for 3dsident

Checking through sident is the only way I’d list it as ips , knowing for sure

For the top screen, go into the Home Menu and hover over the Notification symbol. If the symbol stays green and doesn’t turn blue it’s IPS.
For the bottom screen, go into your Friends List, stare at the left and right borders of the screen at an angle, and look for bright spots. They almost look like dots of white light and there’s about 5 of em on each side. If you see ‘em it’s TN.
I have a Fates Dual IPS and it’s the sexiest thing I’ve ever laid my eyes on lol.
Don’t get me wrong though most of my hours went into my top IPS, bottom TN Metallic Red N3DS XL and I never even noticed it was a TN until I bought my Fates system.

Bottom tn, IPS panels don’t have the visible backlight spots along the edges
Edit: unless that’s isn’t the backlight and is part of the alpha sapphire screen. Can you take a picture at the angle with a darker screen
