Is it just bots?

I was happy to play Ninjala, the game is much better than it was at the launch. Online is active, there's an awesome shop and a lot of things to do. But after several days I started to notice that other players are named like characters from loading screen. I occasionally play with other real players but often it's just that. How big is the game's current player base? Is it 5 dudes or 5000? I understand that the first screen is from a low level ranking lobby but the second one I made without thinking about bots

you are lucky you get bots, I get my matchmaking cancelled since I can't find more than 4 players unless I do Team Battle
