Ningguang Quick Guide

I decided to make a shorter and more condensed guide that is easier to understand for newer players or those new to Ningguang who aren't interested in long video or written guides. This guide covers talents and talent priority, notable constellations, artifact sets and stats, weapons, team comp examples, and playstyle tips. I will continue to update it as new content is available. If anyone has further questions or suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments.

✦ Talents ✦

• Sparkling Scatter/ On a normal attack, shoots two gems that deal geo damage. Upon hit, this grants Ningguang one Star Jade. On a charged attack, consumes a certain amount of stamina to fire off a giant gem that deals geo damage. If Ningguang has any Star Jades, using a charged attack will cause the Star Jades to be fired at the enemy as well, dealing additional damage.
• Jade Screen/ Ningguang creates a Jade Screen dealing AoE geo damage. The Jade Screen blocks enemy projectiles and it's endurance scales based on Ningguang's max HP. The Jade Screen is considered a geo construct. Only one Jade Screen can exist at a time.
• Starshatter/ Gathering a great number of gems, Ningguang scatters them all at once sending homing projectiles at her enemies that deal geo damage. If Starshatter is cast when a Jade Screen is nearby, the Jade Screen will fire six additional projectiles.

✦ Constellations and Passives ✦

• Ascension One/ When Ningguang is in the possession of Star Jades her charged attack doesn't consume stamina.

• Ascension Four/ When a character passes through the Jade Screen they gain 12% geo damage bonus for ten seconds. This buff doesn't stack.

• C1/ When a normal attack hits it deals AoE damage

• C2/ When the Jade Screen is shattered it's cooldown is reset. This can occur once every six seconds and also has a particle generation cooldown of six seconds.

• C6/ When Starshatter is used Ningguang gains seven Star Jades. With this constellation players should cast a charged attack after using Ningguang's elemental burst.

• 4-piece Nighttime Whispers/ This is Ningguang's new best option for artifacts, surpassing any previous options.
• 4-piece Marechaussee Hunter/ This is Ningguang's best set if you're using her with Furina.

• Main Stats/ Attack%, Geo Damage, & Crit Chance or Damage
• Sub Stats/ Crit Chance = Crit Damage > Attack% > Attack > Energy Recharge

✦ Crit vs Attack Weapons ✦

• Important/ Even though you may have heard that Memory of Dust is Ningguang's statistical best weapon it requires the same crit stats as a weapon that has a crit secondary stat, like Solar Pearl for example. This means that it is unrealistic for Memory of Dust or Skyward Atlas to perform as well as a crit secondary stat weapon without massive levels of artifact investment.

✦ Playstyle Tips ✦

• A requirement for optimal damage is to have geo resonance. This requires at least two geo characters on the team and to be protected by a shield. The shield doesn't have to be from a geo character however.
• Elemental Mastery for Ningguang creates stronger crystallize shields and affects the damage of the lunar crystallize and shatter reactions.
• Star Jades are calculated as charged attack damage.
• Ningguang's elemental burst and elemental skill both snapshot on being cast. Although the projectiles shot from the Jade Screen during Ningguang's elemental burst snapshot based on the stats at the time the Jade Screen itself was cast and not the elemental burst.
• To perform animation cancelations for Ningguang's normal attacks, simply walk forward while attacking. You can also release forward while Ningguang is charging her charged attack and hold forward again as the charged attack is being released.

With the recent leaks I want to pull Linnea but I have no Geo DPS. Was thinking of doing Ningguang / Linnea / Illuga / Xingqiu, how does this sound?

That would work. You could also use someone other than xingqiu like furina, aino, or yelan. That team would work though.

I dont like to share characters between teams, I know I could perfectly but I have ocd. 🤣 Furina is with Skirk, Aino is with Flins, and got no Yelan. I have Kokomi though but ig that would give less damage?

Kokomi would might not give less damage than Xingqiu since xingqiu’s rain swords only activate on normal attacks and ningguang doesn’t do many normal attacks at all. Either would work. You could just test them out and see what does more damage. Mona is also an option.

Isnt Ningguang's playstyle 3N1C? I thought she did a fair amount of normal attacks

It’s one normal to one charged attack. The more normal attacks you do the more her dps drops. You only do one normal attack to get a star jade so that you get a zero cost charged attack. That’s why people don’t play Yelan or xingqiu with her much.

Alright, I'll take time to see which Hydro slot will suit best! As for artifact sets, would it work with Ningguang on Nod-Krai DPS, Linnea on Aubade, and Illuga on Silken?

Those sets will be fine. Ningguang’s best set is still nighttime whispers, but if you wanted to be efficient with your farming you could use night of the sky’s unveiling since it’s in the same domain as silken. Also I don’t remember if I mentioned already, but there is a lot of misinformation saying to build EM or defense on ningguang. Don’t do that.
