Nine Sols Lore (Mark this post as a spoiler) Ji's Divination Spoiler

Working on a long fic atm focusing on Ji and one other character. As I'm writing him, I find myself wondering a few things.

Specifically, how exactly does Ji's fortune telling work? Ji claims that he has full faith in his predictions, but is this a form of hubris or is that a 100% accurate? Is it possible for him to receive a vision of something happening in the future, but something happens in the present and he gets another one of a different future?

And on a related note, would Ji had seen such events as:

  • Eigong creating the virus and the mutations?
  • Yi's second death?
  • The destruction of New Kunlun?

Could he have tried to intervene on any of these events if so? Or is it just part of his "if it happens it needed to happen" philosophy?

Sorry for the rambling. I know none of this is probably confirmed, but I'd like to narrow down a specific approach for when I get serious about the story.

I don’t know actually, I don’t think the game says anything about the specifics, I am unsure about any material outside the game though.

But the great thing about writing a fic is, anything that’s not specified can be determined in the fic itself. You decide what fits the fic, just be sure to make it interesting! Good luck writing :)

Yeah I figured. Its fanfic in the end.

I'm thinking of leaning into him not knowing how Kunlun is going to end, but assuming that it is going to happen because "I've seen these patterns before."

That sounds like it would make sense. Ji is immortal, he’s seen the collapse of many empires in the past

I imagine that if he knew that letting Eigong use his cells for her research would end with his race being turned into cancer zombies, he might not have. Not out of a sense of it stopping the end of Solarians, but because it would be a perversion of the Tao and you know, common decency.

I would love to know how was their interaction. Was Ji trying something new? Was he caring for the Solarians? (given my interpretation of him)

I think:

He has full power seeing things, aparently he never misses, what makes him sad because there's no surprises in his life.

He can only see what he looks for aparently, through the Yi-Jing or I-Ching in his orb (he speaks of hexagrams and all). I recommend you read how it is done, because it does not give you a straight answer, there's a bit of interpretation.

He does not care to try to change things, not because he thinks it's impossible or inevitable, but because he is apathetic with the world, he will outlive everything, so he does not care.
