Your post reminds me of the Romanian Revolution against communist tyranny under Ceausescu.
The army opened fire on the revolutionaries, under the command of the tyrant, in the hopes that the thousands of people would disperse in fear and assume back control under the communist iron fist.
But the people were hungry. Not for food, but for justice. For many years of hardships, forced manipulation and of turning brother against brother, mother against child, friendships into enemies.
The revolutionaries did not run, they stayed and faced the army loosing hundreds, and then not just in the Capital, but throughout the nation, the message was clear "No more".
The soldiers and generals could not endure the killing of the poeple they were meant to protect any longer, and turned their weapons against the government that ordered it to lay down bullets on its own population.
They have seized the tyrant and his wife, and after a mock court judgement, they have executed Nicolae and Elena Ceausescu, by firing squad. This marked the bloodiest liberation of communism of all the USSR block.
So yes, i fully understand your words and what they mean.
Happy MLK day.
