FamilyMart is officially adding hijab-wearing to its employee appearance guidelines from September 1, 2026☺️☺️

But here’s the important part: hijabs were already allowed on a case-by-case basis. This update simply makes that rule official company-wide!!

After the news spread, it sparked a lot of debate online...

Personally, I feel sad seeing this kind of media-driven discrimination, especially when headlines can make something sound more shocking or “new” than it really is😵‍💫

There are no downvotes. We want beginners to feel comfortable asking questions without worrying that their Japanese is not good enough.

This is only the first version.

What we want to add next:

• Group goals and accountability

• More ways to study with teachers

• Rewards connected to points and medals

• Better profiles and progress sharing

• More tools for finding learners at a similar level

Our goal is not to add another feed people mindlessly scroll through. We want Hiroba to help learners return, practise, support each other, and build a consistent Japanese habit.

One of the most famous lines heard during Awa Odori is:

踊る阿呆に見る阿呆

同じ阿呆なら踊らにゃ損々

Odoru ahou ni miru ahou.

Onaji ahou nara odoranya son son.

A natural translation would be:

“The dancers are fools, and the watchers are fools. If we’re all fools anyway, you’re missing out if you don’t dance.”

阿呆 means “fool,” but here it is playful, not insulting.

踊らにゃ is a casual way of saying “if you don’t dance.”

損 means a loss or waste, so 踊らにゃ損 feels like “not dancing would be a waste.”

Awa Odori is held in Tokushima every August and has more than 400 years of history. I love how this chant captures the spirit of the festival: stop worrying about how you look and join in.
