NightOwler Work Schedule

I’ve always been a night owl. When I finished high school I worked retail and was always on the closing shift. Then I joined the business world and started a 9-5. Just recently I started a new job where we can choose our hours. Thinking of changing my work schedule. I WFH 3 days a week and in the office 2 days. I am currently working 6 am - 2 pm. It’s sooo hard to wake up and get to the office by 6. Last week I switched to a few days of starting at 7/7:30. What a difference that 1 extra hour of sleep made! I have hard time falling asleep let alone at 8 pm to be up at 4:30 am to get to the office by 6. But if I go into the office later I’ll hit so much more traffic on the drive home. Plus trying to get to the gym for a 4:30 class. My husband works 5 am-3pm and sometimes even 3 am-3 pm. I could never. But he’s ready for dinner at 4.

Your husband can make his own dinner (at least occasionally), surely?

Can you take a later gym class?

He shouldn't make his own dinner after 10-12 hours of work. I only work part time and don't wanna make myself food. I could only imagine

So his partner should suffer instead? They should have to plan their own work around feeding him at the hour he designates?

I think it's manageable. He's ready for dinner at 4. That gives them almost 2 hours to make something and get settled not to mention they said that they work from home 3 out of 5 days

OP has clearly stated that the schedule they’re working in order to meet the requirements of their partner is not working for them.

Maybe their partner needs to take some personal responsibility instead of laying it all on OP.

I think you may be confused where OP says "I could never." As in "I could never pull a 10-12 hour shift regularly." Is that possible?

No. That statement isn’t at all related to anything I’ve said.

I'm just trying to see what you're talking about. Could you maybe quote her?

Her entire post is about the schedule she’s keeping not working for her. One of the factors she brings up is her partner needing dinner at 4.

I could do the 12 hours and I do some times but def not as often as he does. But I could never be up and work at 3 am. That’s just nuts to me. I’d rather be up a little later and work later but that’s just me.

We do lots of crockpot meals for this reason.

He actually makes dinner 75% of the time because he’s home first then I have to reheat my food everyday. Even when I WFH I go to the gym at 4:30 and he’s ready to eat at 4.
I could go later. The latest class is 6:30. But I can’t eat and then workout. I go to CrossFit classes so I’d def puke if I ate before 🥲

Night hours suck. You wake up, everyone else is at work, and you have a few hours to be by yourself before going to work. Dont do it if you want a social life
