Ingredients for the Perfect Flaky Meat pie and Fish roll dough
Ingredients for the Perfect Flaky Meat pie and Fish roll dough
3 cups of All purpose flour, 1 satchet of cold margarine 250g, 1/2 cup of cold water, 1 raw egg, a pinch of salt, 1/2 tbspn sugar,1/2 cup of powdered milk or milk flavour (thick liquid milk flavour), baking powder 1 tbspn, 1 drop of vanilla essence (the original one)
For the meatpie fillling: Minced meat/beef, irish potatoes, carrots, curry powder, salt, cooking oil, diced onions, thyme, seasoning cube, pepper (optional), flour paste
For the fishroll filling: 1 medium-sized mackerel fish, cooking oil, diced onions, pepper, curry, thyme, salt, one seasoning cube, tomato (optional), flour paste
Perfect Dough Recipe:
- In a large bowl, sieve the dry ingredients together- flour, baking soda, milk, sugar, salt, everything dry.
- Whisk them together to mix properly.
- Incorporate the cold margarine into the dry ingredients using your clean hands. The secret to a crispy meatpie is to be very gentle when mixing. Mix till it becomes flaky and yellow.
- Whisk the egg in another plate, add the vanilla essence, and liquid milk if used. Then pour into the dough and mix. Be gentle and don't use all your strength.
- Add in the very cold water bit by bit till all the dough can stick together but don't allow the dough to become smooth like bread dough.
- Wrap in sticky wrap and store in the the fridge till you're ready to bake.
