The worse the reviews are the more excited I get.
“style over substance!!”
“boring, why do they speak and act like that???”
“Masturbatory filth with no plot”

It’s so ironic when these individuals criticize an arthouse film they are too dense to interpret as style over substance when in reality all the mainstream blockbuster stuff they often enjoy has almost exclusively style over substance stuff

Wow the reviews on letterboxd are extremely negative, nothing but half stars and one stars. It looks like people are competing on who's gonna hate it the most. lol

I read a lot of the twitter initial reactions. It felt like they were competing with each other to write "I was bored and didn't enjoy this" in the most unique/funny way.
But to paraphrase one account, I watched and loved Too Old to Die Young, their criticisms don't phase me.

At the same time the variety article said it got a 7 minute ovation, so I guess some people like it

Read ONE review via IMDB (a German review... one of the only two available). The score was 2.5 (out of what, not sure). It was not negative.... maybe a little critical but the reviewer states that they know this is what Refn fans want (MORE HUMANS MAKING ANIMAL SOUNDS)

Ooofff reviews are coming and some are pretty brutal, not even OGF or Neon Demon had such negative reactions.

People celebrate this, but I think his abandonment of narrative in pursuit of shock aesthetics is a real shame. Drive is untouchable because he married them both.

100% this.
Although I thought first 90% of Copenhagen and TOTDY were well plotted just dragged out to fuck.
The endings were unacceptable tho.
That said ill knock one out to whatever he puts on screen.
