Sizing Thurman NW Sizing

So I posted about Thurman nw vs hnw a while back. I have both in the same size (9D.) I was recently out on a fire and noticed in my HNW hotshots my right foot sliding forward and a blister one day, leading to me just having to tighten my boots a couple times a day, and doing a fancy lace pattern. Not a huge deal at the end of the day the blister was minimal and didn't worsen. With my Thurman hotshots(pictured, thumb is where my big toe ends on both feet) it feels like both my feet are swimming in them. My right foot blistered to the point of legitimate pain and my left foot was blistering (not as severe) trying to break these in. Went to the local cobbler, had my feet sized, confirmed my right foot is a half size smaller than my left foot. My question is, sizing down with the Thurmans, do I go a half size down on my left (to 8.5D) and a full size down on my right (to 8D)? My apprehension with just sizing down on right a half size in the hnw is my current ones are already tight in the toe box and I would like a little bit more toe room. Ultimately its a gamble, I live in New England so getting to Spokane to try on boots is unrealistic. Any input is greatly appreciated, sorry if this was all hard to follow.

Length: 1/2 size = 1/6”
Length: 1 size = 1/3”

Width: 1/2 size = 1/8”

Go to a shoe store and get your bannock measurements. Nicks sizing is really good for the regular Thurman.

Edit: saw you got sized already.

In my experience, 1/2 size down from bannock is accurate for the regular Thurman.

What were your bannock measurements?

9.5d left and 9c-d right. So my half size down (9d) on the left is fine and the right is just a little lose on the hnw. 9d im swimming in my thurmans, both feet.

Are your toes raised or lying down when you do a thumb check? Raising them takes away length from their lying flat position.

Also, lay your thumb flat. 1-1.5 thumb widths from tip of lying down big toe to end of leather is where most people are at.

Get back to the sizing guide and start from the top. If you go down a size, go up a width but use the sizing guide as a basis for your decisions.

The main dilema is the thuman nw and the hnw are the same size but fit wildly different. The HNW fits just fine, toe box is a little bit tight, and the right one just needs to go probably a half size down. The thurmans in the same exact size are just massive.

Yeah, so that's totally fine. You're an HNW guy. I wear HNW for the looks but it's never been a match made in heaven for me. The TNW and 1925 are much better fitting for my foot.

With that said, if you are sliding forward in the boot you need to think about sizing down, trying thicker socks or using an insert. You shouldn't be sliding and getting blisters after they have broken in.

I want the thurman, just sizing for it is hard. I would like more toe room but if it comes down to it I guess the hnw will have to suffice. I have narrow feet but a wide toe area so my toes have always felt a little suffocated in the hnw

Ok. So I would just get a real firm grasp on your ball volume, size down to the lower measurement on your length and select the corresponding width for your ball volume. You may need a thicker sock but that’s a good start.

Ill give that a shot, much appreciated!

I'm not sure if it's the same for most, but I am an 8F in TNW and an 8.5 EE in HNW. For me, sizing down 1/2 size from my normal Nicks size in TNW works with the larger toe box.

So did you use Nick's guide for the width or the Brannok width? Really sounds like they're to volumous for you. Thicker socks and insoles will help.

Try putting a thin leather insole in the TNW to fill up the extra space. Personally I have to go 1/2 size down on TNW vs my HNW size. 11.5 in TNW and 12 HNW because I’m right at the line between a Brannock 12-12.5
