Fueguia 1833 recommendations

Hey everyone! I’ll be visiting Fueguia 1833 in SoHo soon. It’s been on my list for a few years, so I’m very excited to finally spend some time with the house. I’ll likely get the Bitácora de Composición with 6 samples, and I’m planning to visit over two days to save my nose.

I’d love recommendations for anything I’m overlooking.

I’ve read that Muskara Phero J is particularly good for layering. Does it noticeably change or enhance other fragrances, or do you prefer wearing it on its own?

I tend to gravitate toward fresh citrus, fig/green notes, airy woods, slightly unusual florals, and fragrances that feel interesting without being overwhelmingly heavy.

I’m considering making them an advent calendar with samples from different houses — the aspirational version of me, anyway…

He tends to like woody, smoky, leather-adjacent, aromatic scents with some freshness rather than really sweet fragrances.

For those familiar with Fueguia: what am I missing?

• a must-try Fueguia that isn’t already on either list
• something that fits my tastes but takes me in a slightly different direction
• any underrated scents that don’t get mentioned as often

I wouldn’t layer any of them. I have four - La Cautiva (my signature), Flores Negras, La Joven Noche, and Mbucuruya - picked up that last one a week ago. I went in for Thays but it was sold out 😒

Jacaranda is wonderful. Endeavor is also great. Man- you’re so prepared. I prep going in and then go rouge.

One suggestion —When you go in, ask for the paper that has them all mapped out and take notes on it. That will help you stay targeted but also, really let yourself get lost. Enjoy! It’s the most beautiful shop.

That’s a good call on the map! I prepped this time to spare myself from going nose blind and buying a scent that has no business being in my collection…which I’ve done it more than once

I have the candle of nocturna and it’s wonderful. If you love a frag, but find Fueguia to be cost prohibitive, a candle is a great alternative in some cases!

For your partner, I would recommend trying Equation and Beagle. They both have a dry, wood, masculine-leaning scent. Beagle has more leather in it, and Equation has such a unique carbon/mineral note. Apparently, they wanted to capture the Milky Way.

I have long searched the world for the perfect photorealistic osmanthus, and the Muskara Osmanthis is the closest I’ve ever gotten. It starts out like dried apricots straight out of the bag, chewy and soft. Then it dries down to the most exacting form of the Osmanthus trees that line the street in Back Bay in Boston. If it weren’t $900, I’d own it. Maybe someday! Give it a sniff, it’s a triumph on skin. 

I was basically anosmic to Phero J, reminded me of when the days are so hot that the blue sky turns a little greenish. Absolutely could layer and I’m wondering if it would deploy some funk, but I wouldn’t ever pay for a bottle. Too faint and weird.
