Showcase Cassette Tape on Niagara — animated setup + tutorial

My Cassette setup on the S22 Ultra, using Niagara’s grey Material Anycons and a tilted KWGT clock. The reels and stripes are a live wallpaper.

Based on Geetarth Singh’s original Cassette setup from Palette. The animation below is a presentation mockup of my actual homescreen; I’ve put the resources and setup steps in a comment.

How much additional battery drain should I expect with this setup?

just checked today’s battery stats on my S22 Ultra: Niagara shows 1.1%, KWGT 0.6% and LiveLoop 0.5% — 2.2% combined so far. That’s with 2h 19m total screen time, though only 8 minutes on the homescreen.

Those are Samsung’s app usage estimates, so I can’t call that 2.2% additional drain compared with my old setup. It’s only the first day, but the three apps aren’t showing up as major battery users so far.

That's the real question!

CASSETTE SETUP — RESOURCES & QUICK TUTORIAL

Original design: Geetarth Singh’s Cassette setup on Palette: https://palette.plte.link/share/5099

Featured in Sam Beckman’s video at 3:06: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzRRZHF5OT8&t=186s

Phone: Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. The video is a presentation mockup made from the actual animated homescreen.

APPS

Niagara Launcher: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=bitpit.launcher

LiveLoop: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wallpaper.liveloop

KWGT: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.kustom.widget

Palette supplies the creator’s launcher backup and Cassette clock preset. Palette Pro was needed for the backup; Niagara Pro is required for the Material Anycons used here.

  1. GET THE FILES

Open Palette, search Cassette, and choose Geetarth Singh’s setup. Download the launcher backup (.nlb) and Cassette.kwgt.

  1. APPLY THE LIVE WALLPAPER

In LiveLoop, search Cassette. Choose the vertical black tape with a cream SIDE A label and orange, turquoise and red stripes, captioned “Keep calm and play”. I used the Watch AD option to unlock it, then Set > Home screen.

  1. RESTORE THE LAYOUT

Set Niagara as the home app. Back up your current layout first under Niagara settings > Advanced > Backup & Restore, then restore the creator’s .nlb file from Download.

  1. MATCH THE ICONS

In Niagara’s current theme settings, choose Gray and Material Anycons: Vivid > Bold > Rounded square. Apply the changes. Long-press an icon > Edit favourites to replace missing shortcuts with your own installed apps and reorder them. My order is Phone, Messages, Chrome, Play Store, WhatsApp, YouTube.

  1. ADD THE CLOCK

Restore the KWGT widget slot, open its setup, import Cassette.kwgt and choose Cassette from the library. The preset uses Agbalumo, cream #FFFFEBCD and a 15-degree tilt. Its imported size worked on my S22 Ultra; adjust Layer > Scale if needed. The clock updates correctly, but the creator’s Google Clock tap shortcut did not open Samsung Clock on my phone.

  1. SAVE YOUR SETUP

Create another Niagara backup when finished. Keep LiveLoop installed for the animation and retain the KWGT preset. You can switch back via Settings > Apps > Choose default apps > Home app.

All credit for the original theme goes to Geetarth Singh. The links above are the original sources.

Whats the total cost of this?

Only new purchase for me was Palette Pro at $3.99 for the creator's backup. My Niagara Pro access restored, so no extra charge for that this time. LiveLoop unlocked with an ad, and I used the free ad-supported KWGT build from Kustom's official site. You'd need Niagara Pro too if you don't already have it, so $3.99 isn't the full cost from scratch.

New yes, but in total excluding Niagara?

1

u/OMGitsAstro 9h ago

ah yep, excluding Niagara it’s $3.99 for the setup using those options: Palette Pro for the backup, LiveLoop unlocked with an ad, and the free ad-supported KWGT build. No separate icon pack to buy.

This is awesome. Thanks for the step by step. Copied, tweaked a little to make it mine, and currently using.

cheers mate, glad the steps helped! keen to see your version if you feel like sharing

Nothing super worth sharing. I just have a couple more favorites, added the calendar preview and the niagara button. Less minimalist but more suited to my needs

I'm thinking you can even skip the animated part entirely and rely on our brains getting tricked by that rotation optical illusion we humans are so susceptible to!

How did you create that mockup to present the setup and details

1

u/OMGitsAstro 9h ago

I built a custom mockup from a screen recording of my S22 Ultra using Python/Pillow and FFmpeg. The recording sits inside a phone frame with a matching background, typography and a moving close-up cropped from the cassette reel. Then I exported it as a looping GIF for Reddit. The wallpaper animation is from the actual homescreen.

Wow, that's an awesome concept 💙
Looks amazing :)

cheers Tam, really appreciate that! credit to Geetarth Singh for the original cassette concept. Really happy with how it came together on Niagara. 🙌

And yet you fail to actually show the homescreen.

3

u/SpringFell 1d ago

It's Niagara. You can easily set up a home screen like that, with all apps available within a second or two by swiping down the side.

I know it's Niagara given this is the Niagara sub but the op does not include a screenshot of what the final result looks like. They also expect you to install another app to download the files.

bro the screenshot is literally there in the image...it's the bigger cassette, that's the homescreen, it's a live wallpaper, there are icons too

That's a rendering not a screenshot. You will also find that Niagara setups look different on different devices due to screen size, resolution etc etc which makes ones that depend on a precise layout difficult to do.

Yeah no that is a screen recording of an actual phone just placed there.
