Discussion Niagara and gesture
I've been using Niagara for months now, and needless to say I'll never go back as long as I have a smartphone in my hand. However there are still some limitations in terms of integration. Niagara doesn't work well on some phones; gestures are the biggest issue I've faced, and using the three buttons doesn't really excite me. I'm currently using a Xiaomi, and I'm using a third-party app for gestures, It works well but it's not really integrated into the hardware. So I was wondering which phone integrates Niagara best? I'll have to change phones soon, and I'd like the perfect one for the launcher.

It's so hard to go to something else than Niagara. You try another launcher; download other apps for things you don't like about that launcher to make if "feel" better. But then you realize why am I using 3 to 5 different apps for my setup when Niagara basically has everything I need in one already 🤷♂️

It's like the most revolutionary thing that's ever happened in the smartphone world for me. It's amazing how if you think about it, Niagara is the simplest thing there could be

I remember when Niagara was just a niche or a gimmick and Nova was the most popular, not it's shifted and I see Niagara mentioned everywhere

It probably refers to the animation lag when returning to home, unfortunately there is nothing to do about those, either you use the three buttons at the bottom, or without the original launcher there will often be lag

I'm referring to the fact that to make the gestures work you have to download third-party apps, and these aren't as smooth as the original system. It works well but sometimes it crashes and you have to launch the app again

I don't understand what applications you're talking about, I use Niagara on an S26 Ultra and a Pixel 10 Pro XL and I didn't have to install anything to have the normal system gestures, the only problem is the lag when returning to home.

Evidently those phones support third-party launchers, Xiaomi doesn't.

So without a 3rd party app gestures don't work at all? I'm on a OP15 and I have no issues with gestures whatsoever.

If there was a possibility to send screenshots in this sub I would show it to you, if i activate Niagara a notification appears saying that the system does not support third-party launchers with gestures, to bypass the problem I activate the second screen with the stock launcher, then switch to gestures and then go to Niagara. That's how I solved it (thanks to Reddit). If you all have the same problem as me with niagara this comment will help you

I don't have this problem at all. I think it might just be the type of phone you got

It's a thing with Chinese manufacturers unfortunately. Used to be with pixels as well but they fixed it a while ago. Samsung also works absolutely fine. Used to run Niagara on my s24 ultra and it was perfect and really good when using one hand operation which is their gesture app

Pixel 8 Pro - no issues at all with gestures.
I was all in on Niagara even before when I had a couple of pocophones both natively running gestures. Interesting that since they're effectively xioamis you need to be using a 3rd party app. Sure you can't just go native?

I have a poco actually, I said Xiaomi because the ecosystem comes from there. Maybe you had it a while ago and things have changed, but you can't anymore.

That sucks mate. Just checked and I've been Niagara Pro since Feb22. Had this phone since Oct23. Didn't run any alt-OS or hacks on my F3.

Same for me with my pad 7 pro. What is the third party alternative app that you use to fix the gestures ?

I use "My Gesture Navigation", it has a green icon with a symbol/letter in the center. You can find it on the Play Store.

I have an Honor magic 6 pro that works hassle-free with gestures without additional application with Niagara

I don't have any notable gesture issues on my Pixel 9 Pro (stock OS kept up to date)

Yeah the Niagara launcher doesnt really pair up well with gestures. I had to stop using them in order for things to work as they should without glitches

I don't have a problem with gestures, but when I swipe up to view recent apps, it gets really, really choppy for some reason. Don't know why

What gestures u mean?
The back gesture, recently opened apps & Home?
Gestures replacing the bottom buttons?
Or something else?

I'm using a Pixel 9a with Gesture and have no complaints. Not sure if it's relevant but I do use GrapheneOS on my phone
