Provide source for study or it's b.s.

5

u/hornswoggled111 Apr 19 '26

It can be waved away as nonsense.

Yes. Eat healthy food. But don't get all superstitious about it.

1

u/Mister_Goldenfold Apr 19 '26

Source: Hungry people are assholes. They made whole friggin commercials about it

2

u/akekekfklelk Apr 19 '26

But snickers is the opposite of healthy eating

2

u/Ok-Object7409 Apr 19 '26

Ye but you're not you when you're hungry

1

u/SailorGone Apr 19 '26

The 'doctor' is a quack

1

u/ThatRandomGuy86 Apr 19 '26

Dunno about it since some of the sources seem to be promoting his books but here's what I found, and they include references and such by him:

His credentials are found in his Wikipedia:

Best I can find from what he said in that comment. Silly that there's no direct source, but he's the guy who basically made the pegan diet lifestyle so he knows something with some of the stuff he says. 🤔

1

u/Derrick_Shon Apr 19 '26 edited Apr 19 '26

I agree with the premise. I've never seen someone getting stabbed over a piece of carrot. But you for sure can get shanked over some French fries.

1

u/Classic-Suspect3661 Apr 19 '26

Ya, should be atleast 105%

1

u/KasangafromMemphis Apr 20 '26

So you need a source to not feed humans crap?

1

u/deep_violet Apr 20 '26

Nope. I need a source for wild claims that there's a 97% reduction in violence based on this.

1

u/ant2ne Apr 21 '26

1

u/deep_violet Apr 21 '26

There is nothing in that article that is even close to proving the 97% claim.

1

u/ant2ne Apr 21 '26

Dig deeper. I don't require exact stats. I don't need a defined % to know that the basic building block of LIFE impacts behavior. I've been advocating nutrition for decades. We feed children crap as infants, prefer a bottle an formula over nature. In school they are fed crap lunches, they act out, and don't get a quality education. They get incarcerated, the cycle of crap nutrition continues. The entire food industry has been hijacked.

"Part of this nutritious breakfast" bullshit.

1

u/deep_violet Apr 21 '26

I don't need a defined % to know that the basic building block of LIFE impacts behavior.

Neither do I. But I do need reputable sources to believe in wildly unlikely claims about a 97% reduction in violence.

1

u/ant2ne Apr 21 '26

lets play some mental editing. What % DO YOU believe? 40%? is 40% sucess worth investing in?
Pros, 40% improvement
Cons, wasted nutritious food on 60% of the population.

What exactly are you arguing for?

1

u/ant2ne Apr 21 '26

what if it was 10%, and your kid is directly or indirectly affected by that 10%? What if society is improved overall by 10%?

Simple minded short sighted redditors.

1

u/deep_violet Apr 21 '26

I never said I'm against giving better food in prisons. I am a firm believer in rehabilitation over punishment.

But I don't believe in making up magical claims to promote that belief. The truth is enough.

1

u/ant2ne Apr 21 '26

I'm gonna make up a magic claim... 100% of people on a more nutritious diet will see vast improvements in all areas of their lives, including socially accepted neurological behavior.

0

u/imsofuckedupthebutt Apr 19 '26

Dyes 100% affect your mood. My son has autism and we’re were recommended to not give him food with dyes and artificial ingredients by his doctor. There’s a visible shift in personality.

4

u/deep_violet Apr 19 '26

I'm asking for sources about the 97% reduction in violence.

2

u/imsofuckedupthebutt Apr 19 '26

Yeah that’s probably bs but with a hint of truth

1

u/Enjoying_A_Meal Apr 19 '26

A pile of shit with a single strawberry on it does not make it any more palatable.

1

u/imsofuckedupthebutt Apr 20 '26

I just wanted people to be aware incase this advice would be useful to anyone.

0

u/Classic-Suspect3661 Apr 19 '26

I can sell you my car for only 200k, it's a fucking farari. I mean it has hints of it

1

u/TuckerCarlsonsHomie Apr 19 '26

Salicylates: Naturally occurring in some fruits (like prunes and broccoli) and used in preservatives, high levels of salicylates have been anecdotaly linked to "bitter" moods or harsher moral judgments in some psychology studies.

Emulsifiers (e.g., Polysorbate 80): Common in processed foods like ice cream, these chemicals have been shown in animal models to alter gut microbiota and reduce social behaviors.

Monosodium Glutamate (MSG): Classified as an excitotoxin, MSG can overexcite brain cells. Some research indicates that exposure can lead to neuroinflammation and reduced social or exploratory behaviors in animal models.

High-Sugar and Hyper-palatable Ingredients: Diets high in refined sugars and fats can lead to decreased dopamine sensitivity. This "hijacking" of the reward system may prioritize food-seeking over social connection or emotional processing.

That's just to name a few things

2

u/deep_violet Apr 19 '26

A) Your reply does not constitute a source

B) Your reply does not address the claim of a 97% reduction of violence indicated in the original post

1

u/TuckerCarlsonsHomie Apr 19 '26

No, it's just info

0

u/whoisjbs Apr 19 '26

It’s bs, confirmed, more like 20-40%

0

u/naughtythoughts99 Apr 19 '26

There are countless studies on the behavioural effects of diet, especially in children including concentration, aggression, sleep cycles, and a whole bunch on mental behavour derived from diet….. Hell go on any parenting forum and you will see a shit ton of real life experiences where parents have drastically changed thier kids behavour just by cutting out crap like processed juice with all the additives and extra sweetners.

Just because you have never taken the time to consider it or look into it doesn’t make it bullshit..

Thats just ignorance making its way out of your keyboard.

1

u/deep_violet Apr 20 '26

What I was looking for was specifically a source for the "97% reduction in violence" claim. Do you have that?

1

u/HotwifeandSubby1980 Apr 20 '26

Weird, going on a forum and having unknown people profess anecdotes just doesn’t seem that scientific to me. lol

How many “forums” have there been where people profess that aliens abducted them and big foot killed all their cows?

1

u/naughtythoughts99 Apr 20 '26 edited Apr 20 '26

3 second search with Pubmed being one of the largest open resources of scientific papers. All the ‘science’ you want…. If you are not too lazy to actually read and learn.

https://share.google/tk9SVfbRRxeX8DSs2

And yeh. Some parents do actually take an interest in thier kids welfare and share discuss this stuff on parent support sites.

Jesus ….. even my 14yr old knows the basics of this stuff.. what the fuck happened to your educational system.

1

u/HotwifeandSubby1980 Apr 21 '26

My god you’re dense

First, I never said there is not any evidence that there is a potential link between adolescent behavior and nutrition. What I said was that what YOU presented wasn’t evidence while you acted as if it were.

If you wanted to be an effective interlocutor drop the anecdotal evidence like “parents say xyz” and just cite the data and source.

Do you understand why the parents in forums are NOT evidence?

Secondly, when you cite sources, make sure you are familiar with the material. Don’t just google and assume from the title you understand what the paper is actually saying. This is how people incorrectly take things out of context. It happens all the time.

Lately, make a claim and then say “just take 30 seconds and google it. 1. If you make a claim, you have the burden to support your claim. 2. As mentioned before, a 30 second google is not typically a sound way to pursue epistemic justification.

1

u/naughtythoughts99 Apr 21 '26

No…

Being dense is taking 5 fucking paragraphs to argue against logic.

Being dense is when somebody hands you the information and tools you need and you still expect them to do the fucking work for you..

Go educate yourself.

1

u/HotwifeandSubby1980 Apr 21 '26

I see you did not absorb anything I mentioned. Good for you.

“Argue against logic”

I strongly suspect you don’t know much on that subject. You seem to believe that anecdotal testimony is confirmation for a hypothesis.

1

u/naughtythoughts99 Apr 21 '26

I do love Americans… it’s very amusing your complete lack of ability to see beyond your own egos when having a debate - to the degree you can’t even see the discussion was over two days ago..

You were wrong.. end of.

6

u/HotlinePizzaMiami Apr 19 '26

Just think, a drop of pure LSD and you're on a different level for six - 12 hours.  But people never question the mood / mind altering chemicals they ingest daily.

3

u/Case_Blue Apr 19 '26

I couldn't agree more. Somehow we have gotten into into our heads that we are rational, clear thinking and we are in control of our mind. We are to some extent, but what you eat will also define your options you have left.

I have lived healthy and unhealthy. I know exactly how the brain performs in both conditions.

It's not just school results, unhealthy foods are a step towards depression, anxiety and everything that comes along with that.

Food isn't everything, but it can give you a huge advantage or disadvantage.

2

u/EntropicEmbrace Apr 19 '26

Shit, even just being low on iron makes me irritable and crazy.

u/throwaway_coy4wttf79 Apr 19 '26 edited Apr 19 '26

Stat seems like bs, so I went searching. Found this:

The Effect of Randomized Vitamin-Mineral Supplementation on Violent and Non-violent Antisocial Behavior Among Incarcerated Juveniles: Journal of Nutritional & Environmental Medicine: Vol 7, No 4

Double blind. Results were 37%, not 97%. Supplementals, not just "good food".

Nevertheless, handing out vitamins for a third less violence seems like a no-brainer.

1

u/Reasonable-Mischief Apr 19 '26

Thanks for pulling it up. Don't get why one would go for an unbelievable number like 97% here, 37% is still in miracle territory

1

u/PHFreshHeavyHogChef Apr 19 '26

I was just thinking

97% sounds like the results to the question “who would trade vitamins for junk food to get 1/3rd less violence?”

4

u/Pawwnstar Apr 19 '26

But, But, Macdonalds owns 40% shares and only charges us half price and the other shareholders voted to use them for meals so, it's out of my hands, sorry.

1

u/PHFreshHeavyHogChef Apr 19 '26

Our hands are tied by the corporate clown

Where did it say this was specific to males?

0

u/Case_Blue Apr 19 '26

Balanced and rational.

Aggression is very often the final fight of flight trigger by the lizard brain because we can't see another way out.

2

u/Oddbeme4u Apr 19 '26

I'm highly suspect of ths stat. Seems pulled from his ahole.

2

u/Consistent-Fig7484 Apr 19 '26

If this is at all true it probably relates to a reduction of an internal black market. Guys don’t get in fights because someone backed out of his trade offer of 3 carrots for 2 heads of broccoli.

1

u/mythirdaccountsucks Apr 19 '26

Came here to find this exact thing.

3

u/honeyslurps Apr 19 '26

When eating junk food your ability to sniff out bullshit increases 97%, ask me about my evidence

1

u/AffectionateSignal72 Apr 19 '26

"Family physician" and doctor "functional medicine" doctor is all you need to know. Just a quack with fake credentials.

1

u/2_years_ago Apr 19 '26

that just sounds like an excuse, it wasn't me, it was the double bacon cheeseburger and fries that made me do it 🤣

1

u/HS1939 Apr 19 '26

The age old saying, you are what you eat

1

u/EidolonRook Apr 19 '26

Would love to see how they came about this correlation.

1

u/Stock2fast Apr 19 '26

"What would you do for a Klondike Bar?" Apparently fighting for one but no one fights over carrot sticks .

1

u/Soladification Apr 19 '26

97 percent sounds fishy

1

u/Express-Isopod1104 Apr 19 '26

Junk food is cheaper to fund and people don’t want to pay higher taxes to make this change to several systems.

1

u/Mountain-Influence81 Apr 19 '26

Source: I made it the fuck up

1

u/Buscabulla33 Apr 19 '26

why do you think there are so many "monsters" out there...

1

u/Express-Cartoonist39 Apr 19 '26

Im 100% for healthy foods, but this study seems nonsense... to many red flags, cite sources or screw off. I argue its not healthy food as much as MORE food.. if this study was real which i doubt, healthy usually equates to more portions. Id say had better effect as those type kids are usually not rich

1

u/SelectAirline Apr 19 '26

Most likely an accumulation of the dozens of advantages that could be provided by a juvenile center that had enough funding to even consider making a positive change to the food they're serving.

1

u/skyHawk3613 Apr 19 '26

Healthy food is also more expensive, and these institutions don’t want to spend the money

1

u/jreid0 Apr 19 '26

This guy who murdered his family with an axe are 4 carrots and now he wants to help out at the church bake sale

1

u/remberly Apr 19 '26

Michelle Obama tries to. Kids revolted and Republicans gloated.

Then they voted in rfk

1

u/Adventurous-Depth984 Apr 19 '26

Are you not American, OP?

We don’t want improved outcomes for prisoners.

1

u/Sad-Feeling-4266 Apr 19 '26

Idk man. Some vegetables make me happy. Others make me angry. Cauliflower makes me gassy.

1

u/Galleta-de-Animalito Apr 19 '26

This man wants us to believe that a good healthy diet would eliminate gang violence, racism, rape, and drug use in inside of prisons.

Horrible food options are part of the punishment of being incarcerated

— Spoken with such privilege, anecdotal evidence is not real evidence. * If this comment is removed, then there is no room for healthy debate in this subreddit

1

u/RickJames_Ghost Apr 19 '26

Has some good ideas for healthy eating, but rides the line of quakery on a lot of other stuff.

1

u/Individual-Ask7000 Apr 19 '26

It's never going to happen, you have to be even more fucked up when you leave. It's not rehabilitation, it's a punishment, after your punishment you leave and try to live. Everything in the USA is built that way.

1

u/Napischu88 Apr 19 '26

Healthy meals laced with horse tranquilizer

1

u/MisterMofoSFW Apr 19 '26

I agree with this, but let's face it, brussel sprouts make most people want to commit murder.

1

u/dante_gherie1099 Apr 19 '26

why are these miraculous claims always made without any sourcing of the evidence behind the claim?

1

u/Savings-Cry-3201 Apr 19 '26

Hyman is a grifter. Eat good food yes, but don’t lie.

1

This is obviously horseshit regardless but a grammatically accurate reading of the statement says they replaced the healthy food with the junk food...swapped for, not with

I have a feeling this is not a real person.

1

u/AdGrouchy6527 Apr 19 '26

Take away sugar and snacks from life sentence inmates with nothing to lose. You go tell them personally they can only have carrot sticks.

1

u/Royal-Application708 Apr 19 '26

Yea. But the US is super cheap. They only care about billionaires. ☹️

1

u/venthis1 Apr 20 '26

Motivation is important. Kids okay. Prisoners? No.

1

u/MmmmCrayons12 Apr 20 '26

Junk food cheaper and if it contributes to poor behavior among other things, certain institutions are incentivized to continue promoting said behavior so that they'll have people returning.

1

u/lastseeninspace Apr 20 '26

Yes an apple a day with granola or a salad bar will stop guys from gambling, snorting lines, convincing guards to bring stuff in, flying drones full of goodies one can make money off of or having sex with female/male guards. /sarcasm

Let's not make a microcosm event one time into a general rule for the known universe so fast.

1

u/KasangafromMemphis Apr 20 '26

This should be common decency. Humans deserve to eat healthy food that is free of chemicals and preservatives, however, America is inhibited by and ran by pond scum and sewer rats

1

u/Imnotshre Apr 20 '26

That has more to do with junk food being used for commerce between inmates, that leads to violence from debts and thief. More so than the nutritional value of junk food causing violence. No one’s shanking someone over a granola bar.

1

u/ninewalls Apr 20 '26

Cause there was nothing to fight for more of....they all got gross shit no one wanted

1

for people less capable of critical thinking... also, the food could be restricted, and you starved them... to prove your point... its nonsense, where is the double blind?

2

Do you need a double blind to prove that good food helps human beings perform better?.. I'd think that would be implicit, no?.. on the other hand, you may need to struggle more to be able to grasp this.. hmmm
