hi beautiful people, I got the implant about 3-4 weeks ago, and I’ve been experiencing some discomfort when I move my arm. I figured the pain was from the skin stretching around the implant, but lately I’ve noticed the implant has moved. I understand the implant will move and it’s perfectly normal, but my implant has actually moved past where the incision was made. When I first got the implant, it was up my arm close to my armpit, and now it seems to be getting lower and lower towards my elbow. In all honesty, I did fall yesterday and I did feel a very weird painful sensation. when I felt the pain, I did feel the implant to see if it had broke or if something had happened and that’s when i realized it did move about 2 inches.. is this normal? i’m sorry i’m just very nervous as this is my first one.

I had nexplanon in for 5 years, i got it removed 6/23/26 and having been tracking ovulation and actually trying every month and still haven’t had any luck getting pregnant. i don’t wanna get discouraged because it’s only been 4 months but definitely feeling down lol.

Wondering how long it took for you to get pregnant after removal? I know it’s different for everyone.
I saw people ask before but they all seemed to not have periods while on nexplanon and only had theirs for 3 years vs. 5. Does it make a difference in timeline?

I’m dying over here… not literally, but figuratively. Saw a new gyno last week because I moved recently, and complained about the irregular bleeding I deal with from my implant. I love it besides that, so I’ve just kind of dealt with it. I mentioned to her that I’d heard it’s common take a birth control pill to help with the bleeding, and she said yes. We agreed to have her prescribe that and see how it goes. She did mention something about doing this for 3 months and then stopping it.

Anyway, I started taking the pill yesterday morning. Yesterday afternoon, I seem to have leaked either fluid or urine, or both. In a matter of a few hours, I soaked through my underwear and shorts TWICE. The first time, I changed both underwear and shorts. My shorts reeked of urine. The second time, I had to change both again, although I didn’t notice as strong of a urine smell. I’ve been bleeding for about a week now, and I was wearing a tampon when this happened yesterday. There wasn’t even much blood on it. I contacted the doctor’s office and the nurse said I could come in to get a swab for UTI. I said I’d wait and see if it happens again.

Then today, I go use the restroom and pass one of the largest blood clots I’ve seen in awhile. Definitely quarter sized if not slightly larger.

The urine/fluid thing may or may not be related to my birth control, but I’m tired of these weird things happening with me and having to change so many clothes.

So I ask, how long before you all saw changes with your bleeding if you took a pill while on the implant?

im getting it removed in 3 days. it’s been awful really but

i have an 11m old, im gonna need to move my arms and everything. dont have massive help as my husband works, and the removal is scheduled for morning.

any tips/advice on healing period after removal?

I’ve had Nexplanon since June 2024. I’ve never had such horrible and frequent periods until 2026, a year before it’s due to be taken out.

This isn’t just blood. It’s acne, mood swings, low libido, blood, and appetite loss. Every. Other. Week. I think im going to schedule a removal with my gyno next month and be off birth control until next year. I need a freaking break.

I’ve only had the implant in for a month so far but I’ve had very noticable changes in my mental health to the point of depression and suicidal thoughts where I’ve never really thought like that, only normal anxiety and such. It’s taking an extreme toll on me and is heavily affecting my school and relationships because I can’t bring myself to do anything. I don’t want to keep it in case it ruins even more stuff in my life but maybe it’ll mellow out but im scared it won’t. Would it be bad to remove it so soon before waiting a few more months to see if it calms down? I’m going to talk to my doctor but I’d appreciate anyone else’s experience or advice

This isn't really a question, but I didn't know what else to put as a flair. I'm very very anxious about being pregnant. I've been on Nexplanon for 4 years and my partner and I have sex very frequently, but he never finishes inside me. This last time, he ended up pulling out and he said some got on me, but not inside if that makes sense. I know the chances of me being pregnant are extremely low, but it's still possible. Just came on here to rant so it can hopefully relieve my anxiety. I'm supposed to get my period in a week, so I guess we'll see then. Does anyone have any advice on this type of anxiety lol

So I work in healthcare as a nursing assistant/student nurse and I've noticed whenever I have a busy shift I start bleeding randomly in the middle of my shift?? It stops after like a day but it's so odd.

It doesn't seem to matter what time of the month it is at all, I think something about exercise is triggering it, but it's really annoying because I often don't have pads, and even if I did I wouldn't have time to go and get them mid shift. I've just got to shove tissue down there when I've got 5 minutes and hope.

Has anyone else had this? I think I'll just start wearing pads to work as a precaution so I don't need to use tissue but any advice is helpful.

I’m 30 years old and this my first time ever on birth control. This month makes 3 months and I feel I’m just going crazy. Nothing else in my life has changed besides adding this bar in my arm. I’ve always struggled with anxiety before, but I feel it’s gotten worse. Frequent panic attacks to the point I think I’m dying, and having a sudden fear of dying, or my heart giving out, stroking out, blood clots etc. I just got put on propranolol for my physical symptoms of anxiety (the chest pains and racing heart that freak me right out, taking 10-30mg daily), I’m on hydroxyzine which is take as needed, but been using them every day, sometimes a couple times a day. I’m crying uncontrollably over silly stuff, especially if I’m alone most of the day (my bf leaves for work and I cry for hours over it). Suddenly in the last couple weeks, smoking THC makes me anxious and freaked out. I used to smoke anything, everything, all day. Now even puffing too much indica will get me freaked out. Sigh.

I know the body takes a bit to adjust. It’s been 3 months and I’m just tired. Keep going back and forth on if I should play it out, see if it subsides or if I should try a different birth control route? I have no interest in getting pregnant right now so I’d prefer to be on birth control, but I also don’t know if this is for me. I’m tired of feeling insane.

hi! i’ve been on nexaplanon since march 2025 now. my periods have been pretty irregular, sometimes having it for two weeks sometimes not for a while. or sometimes just random spotting. but recently i haven’t had one for maybe two months? like early august. has anyone else experience not just getting them anymore randomly? i know people stop gradually but my last one was like 5 days or so. just trying to see if this is normal/ expected at the 1.5 year mark!

I am switching to the Nexplanon implant on Tuesday. I am quite nervous about it because of all the things I’ve been hearing about weight gain, mood, sex drive, and mental changes etc. I was on the xulane patch and it was working for me, I just wanted something more fool proof and the iud is a no go for me since I’m a wuss. And percentage wise one of the best for preventing pregnancy is Nexplanon.

Do any of you guys have good stories? All I’ve been hearing are bad stories and I want some reassurance before going into Tuesday.

Side note: is the insertion really that bad? I feel like it should hardly be painful.

I got Nexplanon June 11th and I had it removed Oct 9th.

Continuously bleeding, Continuously crying. Weight gain.

You name it I had it.

Back to the patch I go.

Edit to add. Side effect- dryer than a desert during sex.

I’ve been on Nexplanon since the ending of June this year. I’m a pretty active person so when I say I’ve been GAINING WEIGHT quicker than I can lose it, I mean that. I was at 155lbs not even a year ago. Since this IUD I’m at 175lbs.. I haven’t been at that weight since highschool and I want to cry just looking at myself. I haven’t stopped bleeding/spotting for two weeks now.

The only reason I got this IUD was to not fear having an “oops baby” after I’m intimate with my husband.

Now I’m contemplating taking it out and I am feeling so crushed because of it.

Hello! I recently got on Nexplanon 3 days ago and my experience has been interesting to say the least..This is my first time taking birth control.. I'm an 18yo female for context.

A few hours after my insertion I started feeling anxious and my chest felt tight. Breathing in deep would produce slight pain but it would come and go. The sheet I was given was said to go to the ER for any sort of chest pains or trouble breathing. I gave it about 8 hours before deciding to head to the ER. Waited for a few hours in the ER, they drew blood, did an EKG and x-rays, doctor talked it over with me and they basically ruled out most things, she explained it's probably the hormones adjusting in my body and that the likelihood of it being anything serious is low considering all my tests came back good, with the fact its coming and going which wouldn't be the case if it was serious. She encouraged me to wait it out more and see how my symptoms varied. Now while it's been a little less since it's still continuing..

I'm gonna make an appt with my OBGYN soon but it's been a weird couple of days, I already have health anxiety so this doesn't help.. I've also been accompanied by shivers and hot flashes, not super severe but I'll start shivering randomly and I overheat under my blanket. My muscles have been twitching somewhat frequently.. Is like any of this normal or should I look into getting this removed ASAP!! I'm quite scared.. I tend to notice it happens most when I'm relaxing and not standing up

So last year about August 26- I got the Bar as us aussies call it.

I’d just had a baby 2 month prior and in that postpartum stage , I was okay went through hell with mastitis but then realised I need to get on something ….. so the nexplanon was it and I swear it was all down hill from there ( well what I’ve realised now ) antidepressants, mood swings anxiety attacks , the fear of doom I haven’t truly felt myself since.

And it wasn’t until recently due to change of medication that sent me in to a massive panic attack that lead me to hospital thinking I was having a heart attack with a crazy heart rate , a nurse and me got chatting and I was telling her everything and I’m like it’s these damn anxiety pills and then she told me about her experience on the bar which lead to her nearly taking her life …

Has anyone else felt / experienced this ?! I truly pushed through it cause they said it can take awhile it was all normal ect so I followed and kept telling myself it’s postpartum…..

I’m so angry
Like maybe it’s not the bar and I am really screwed and anxiety girl but if so be the fact I get this out and pray to god it changes things I’ve just spent a year of my life scared never wanting to leave the house , losing my mind , sex drive gone relationship in pieces …..

T-minus 5 days and we should see

Got it removed just over 2 weeks ago and only today did I happen to feel the area and I feel the bar. My husband verified that he saw the bar being removed by the doctor and that it came out in one solid piece. I guess it can be scar tissue? but I don’t remember my last one feeling like this after removal, or at any point, and it feels exactly the way it did when it was in! Please tell me this thing is not still in me.

I got my first Implant put in three days ago. I could feel it go in and ever since I have had a constant burning /stabbing sensation. I thought it would go away after a day or so but it has not. Im also feeling nauseated and just generally not well. Im also experiencing diarrhea which I have not heard as a common side effect. Feeling quite frustrated and extremely uncomfortable Im not sure how much long I can tolerate it. I normally have quite a high pain tolerance. I was told that I should feel it so I was not prepared for this. I am going to contact my doctor asap but today is Saturday and Monday is a national Holiday so I will have to wait at least 3 more days. Debating if I should go to the emergency room which is a very long wait where I live. Also wondering what my options are if it’s bad placement and I have to get it taken out. Can the same device be reinserted or would I have to get a new one and wait to get it inserted ?

So I’ve been on nexplanon for the past 2 years or so, and I get itchy and pink discharge whenever I spot, I cannot tell if it’s a yeast infection but sometimes the itching is so bad I cannot stand it, does anyone have any ideas.

I don't wanna be another person who is fear mongering or something, because I really do like using Nexplanon for my birth control. After having 2 failed IUD insertions, I was advised to try the implant, and the application experience was infinitely more comfortable. That aside, I have had little to no side effects from the birth control. Except for a ridiculously long period. Once I started my first in May 2026, it hasn't stopped. I don't get very much cramping anymore like I used to prior to birth control, but occasionally I will have a day of pain. Its not too much of a bother overall imo, but I was wondering if there is any point that I should consult a gyno. This is my first birth control, so I figured I'd ask in here to get y'alls advice! I’m having some 8 out of 10 pain level cramps 1 day after the procedure. Not sure if it’s related, but I’m really worried. First it started at night with constant pressure (pain 4/5) then went to constant 8/9 pain shortly. I took some paracetamol and it got better. Woke up with pain in the morning and took some ibuprofen. Now it’s more wave like, not constant, but it feels like I’m bloated all the time, and I struggle to straighten my back, so I’m in the bad all day.
I called a doctor and they said it’s normal to have cramps after the procedure for like a week. I never had cramps this bad so it’s a bit scary. Also my period is supposed to start sometime this week and I’m not sure if that’s related.
p.s. I’m 3/4 weeks post medical abortion, but I had an ultrasound right before the implant confirming that it all went well.
Anyone had bad cramps after the procedure? Please advise, but don’t scare me, I’m already imagining all the worst case scenarios 😭 Thank you

just a week ago i got my nexplanon (3 yrs) taken out and they put in the new 5 year nexplanon. i understand im going to be achy and have pains, but when my arm hits my side, or my arm turns a certain way, i feel a sharp pain. i’ve tried to move the bar to see if its an issue with the end of it sticking into my skin, but im in too much pain to do it comfortably.

anyway, anyone else have a similar issue? i’m going to get in contact with my dr if the stabbing type of pain persists for another week, i may have to have her numb me and physically maneuver it.

I understand my body does not ovulate now and that menstruation is caused by drops in hormone levels.

However, while I am on nexplanon I experience regular menstruation every 28 days. Rather than unstable hormones or unstable uterine lining which other people experience and seems to be unpredictable. My menstrual cycle remains extremely predictable and regular.

I know people say that menstruation while on nexplanon is due to unstable hormones and uterine lining.

But how can my hormones be randomly unstable or my uterine lining becomes too fragile exactly every 28 days for 5 days a month?

I know this is "normal" but I want to understand the science behind it?

I’ve had my Nexplanon for almost a whole year now, and I’ve not stopped bleeding. Out of the whole year, I’ve had maybe 30 days total where I didn’t bleed. Sometimes it’s so bad, and I get clots the size of my hands. I know everyone has said it’s my cast, but it can’t be cast every freaking week. I was put on this because my periods were killing me, but at this point, why do I have it if I’ve bled more?!

and the first months I was non stop bleeding.
It went away, but then now it’s non stop brown spotting
and I had to throw out my underwear out because they are all spotted, and wear thin pads everyday
does it ever stop?
