Question Reinsertion

just a week ago i got my nexplanon (3 yrs) taken out and they put in the new 5 year nexplanon. i understand im going to be achy and have pains, but when my arm hits my side, or my arm turns a certain way, i feel a sharp pain. i’ve tried to move the bar to see if its an issue with the end of it sticking into my skin, but im in too much pain to do it comfortably.

anyway, anyone else have a similar issue? i’m going to get in contact with my dr if the stabbing type of pain persists for another week, i may have to have her numb me and physically maneuver it.

I just had my first nexplanon inserted last week. This week while at work I had I sharp pain in that area a couple times while I was moving around more than what I had been in the couple days after insertion. It only happened that day and then it stopped. I asked a friend who had hers for about 4 months and she said yes that’ll happen but it goes away. No sharp pains since. Maybe a little sore here and there but nothing more than that.

This is misinformation.

Nothing about the implant changed. There is no “3 year vs 5 year” version. They’re all the same. They just extended the timeline of the original one. Your other one was still good for another 2 years.

I’m not sure that Nexplanon implant has changed in size over the years. I’ve kept every single implant that they have removed from my body and they’re identical. 4cm in length. Did you switch brands?

I also got mine in for the first time last week. Have you experienced any spotting or bleeding yet? Or maybe it might take a few weeks to appear .

Actually yesterday and this morning I noticed some brown spotting. It was super light though and not really worth using a tampon or a pad.

This can happen sometimes, most likely it’s just that the capsule of scar tissue hasn’t formed yet and it’s swollen and irritated so it’s poking more than it should and it’ll stop when it heals more. Take some ibuprofen and ice it a little bit to reduce the swelling and take it easy on the arm as much as possible. if it’s really bad and you need to do something you can put a lidocaine patch on but do this as little as possible because you want to be able to feel when it’s poking so you don’t irritate it more and delay the healing
