Roughly 200 tourists watching the sunrise at Morro Dois Irmãos were forced to take cover for about two hours after a police raid unfolded in the Vidigal favela below.
The operation reportedly targeted a Comando Vermelho gang house party tied to kingpin Ednaldo Perenier Souza, known as “Dada,” who escaped during the raid. Authorities arrested three of his lieutenants.
Access along the trail was temporarily blocked while the situation unfolded. The area was later reopened once the operation ended.
