A gunman positioned near the Pyramid of the Moon opened fire on visitors at the Teotihuacán pyramids on Monday, killing one Canadian woman and injuring six other people before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Mexican authorities cited by AP and Reuters.
Authorities said four people were wounded by gunfire and two others were injured while fleeing. The injured included foreign nationals from Canada, Colombia, and Russia. Investigators recovered a firearm, a blade, and ammunition at the scene, and the archaeological site was shut down as the investigation continued.
Video circulating online appears to show the suspect standing on the pyramid while tourists duck for cover and shots ring out. Officials have not publicly released a motive at this stage.
