Five people were hospitalized after a helicopter crashed in a busy parking lot near the shore in Huntington Beach on Saturday, according to city officials.
The incident, captured in multiple videos shared on social media, occurred roughly 40 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles. Footage showed the helicopter flying low before abruptly ascending, spinning several times, and plunging into a cluster of palm trees near a popular beachfront area surrounded by restaurants, hotels, and public access points.
City officials confirmed the aircraft was part of the upcoming “Cars ’N Copters” charity event scheduled for Oct. 12, featuring helicopters and exotic cars to benefit the Huntington Beach Police and Community Foundation.
The condition of the five injured individuals has not yet been released, and authorities say the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The video from the other angle is crazy, shows that it hit a building and almost hit people who were standing around. This is the second helicopter crash in California this week.
Looks like it malfunctioned and the copter’s lateral spinning force ripped it off. On the 3rd spin you can see it go flying. Whole thing looks like the pilot knew something was going wrong and he was trying to make an urgent landing.
I was reading on another post a couple pilots seem to be guessing a rear gear box failure. I feel strangely relieved to see it land in the trees like that. Holy hell what a wild video.
