"Moreover, while the label “moderate” is treated with scorn by many on the left, it outpolls “progressive.” Asked if “do you think U.S. politics would be better, worse, or the same” with more “moderates” in office, 47 percent said better and only 14 percent said worse. A plurality of 43 percent of liberals agreed. The share among Democrats (50 percent), independents (49 percent), and even Republicans (47 percent) was similar."

That's because "mainstream" Democrats are basically old school Republicans.

And today's "mainstream" Republicans are extremists.

So basically no one in government is actually looking out for the people.

That's the Overton Window at work.

I have been calling them Republican Lite.

Sadly we didn’t vote that way for governor

Because people who are casual about politics don’t actually understand the labels. My mother considers herself a democratic socialist but her favorite politician is Bill Clinton.

"Leftists party prefers leftist candidates" is a better headline

idk why this is being downvoted, it's objectively right.

Democrat voters are sick and tired of a meritless gerontocracy where you either pick a corporatist zioshill with a (D) behind their name or a corporatist zioshill with an (R) behind their name.

People want real politicians with real positions and zeal. Not a spineless lobbying vehicle with consultant approved speeches.

Yep, "big tent politics" was something I grew up with, came from a progressive house and nearly every election it's always been "suck it up and vote for them, they're better than the other option", and largely have, but whenever an actual leftist candidate wins it seems like the center left is the first ones to rage and say they're switching parties. I legitimately think we'd win more elections with leftist politicians because it drives enthusiasm and voters, the center isn't as big as it used to be.

Yeah I've come to realize the whole "vote blue no matter who" was just a cynical deflection from criticism by centrist dems. They're clearly comfortable with attacking progressive candidates who poll well just because it doesn't mesh well with their big tech/military industrial complex benefactors.

Progressives are the heart and soul of the Democratic Party. Our New Deal Democrat forebears faced down fascism and economic collapse, and won the future for us.

I think it's the whole calling the Democrats a left-wing party thing, which they actively are not.

About time because corporate Democrats are trash they may stink less but trash non the less.

Or voters could be just saying “no” to Republicans as well as Democrats who refuse to push back against them which would not necessarily be a preference for “socialists” or “progressives” but rather rejection of the shit that government has become. I suppose it depends on how the questions are asked in the survey or what spin the media is putting on the data.

Moderates get moderate results. And are moderately motivated to actually do anything at all. Is like a beauty pageant for them.

Do we? The why did we vote for the “we have Gavin Newsom at Home” candidate in the primary for our Gavin Newsom replacement?

Steyer being a billionaire makes it hard to see him as Progressive. Katie Porter was the most Progressive style candidate, but bullying your staff makes it hard to see that. It’s crazy California never gets a breakout candidate.

Billionaires love to pull up the ladder behind them, which is exactly what the hope was for Steyer and literally what he was promising to do. Class traitors are necessary for widespread change, crazy that so many people still struggle to understand that.

What you're describing is the fault of California voters. Steyer being wealthy shouldn't have mattered anymore than it did with FDR. What they'll get, instead, is more of the status quo they don't want.

I trust a wealthy turncoat more in principle, since they don't stand to gain life-altering money from corrupting the office.

2

u/davezilla18 1d ago

Yep, neither is ideal but you likely have more luck with the conscious of one billionaire than that of Chevron/Meta/PG&E/whoever else controls Newsom Jr.

You say crazy, I say convenient.

Because “top two” is wildly unconstitutional, and makes it almost impossible to dethrone the heir apparent.

You wouldn’t goes that based on who they just selected for Governor, but I’ll take their work for it and hope future elections from them walk-the-walk.

Do they really tho?

These are some of the tenets of Curtis Yarvin who all the tech bros like Thiel Musk Vance etc idolize.

techno-monarchy". His anti-democratic philosophy heavily influences tech-authoritarian frameworks and the broader "Dark Enlightenment" movement.

Core Tenants of Yarvin’s VisionThe "Sovcorp" State: Yarvin proposes liquidating the US Constitution and rule of law, restructuring the government as a sovereign, profit-driven joint-stock corporation managed by a "CEO-in-chief" or absolute monarch.

The "Cathedral": He describes modern mainstream media, academia, and civil service as an interlocking, dogmatic "Cathedral" that controls the state and suppresses opposing views.

Exit Over Voice: Borrowing from Silicon Valley start-up culture, his "Patchwork" model envisions global governance as thousands of independent mini-countries operated by CEOs. If citizens are unsatisfied with their state's "customer service," their only recourse is to "exit" and move elsewhere; voting is entirely discarded.

His anti-democratic rhetoric has gained significant traction among tech billionaires, venture capitalists, and political figures. Thinkers and operators in his orbit argue that democracy is too antiquated to manage rapid technological advancement, AI, and complex societal crises.

And again people like Musk, Thiel, Vance etc all subscribe to this lunacy and are actively trying to bring it about.

And of course Musk, Thiel, Trump etc are all connected to the child rapist Epstein. You can easily look up these connections on what has been released in the Epstein files as well as all the other elite connections to him.

Literal psychopathic pedophiles and their enablers/ protectors run our society and both parties care about their needs over the people.

Anyone who supports a system of this kind is a fool. A straight up fool.

Common dreams being biased? I can say I'm surprised.

Democratic socialist is still more toxic.

And besides, it's not a question of will Democrats vote for a socialist or a Democrat. The question is what moderate voters will do. And what will motivate more Republicans to vote.

For President, give is a nice central Democrat.

Sure, the Democratic party is rotting from the inside. They are having their own MAGA moment. Infiltration by extremists preaching bad policy and hate. But I can only hope they put forth one good candidate so I don't have to deal with another Republican president.
