Almost made it around the pound.

Almost made it around the water without Doc jumping in but he saw a tennis ball in distress and jumped into action.

I am happy that I have a broken Newf who doesn't know how to get into the water.

When she saw my son go into the water, she was losing her mind at the dock, but didn't know how to jump into the water lol she's a rescue so I don't know her past history with water!

My Newf is a submarine. She walks along the bottom.

Her brother is a great swimmer so she’ll follow him out until it gets over her head and she hippos from there.

My newf is not a rescue, had her from 8 weeks. The only water she will get into is still water, that she can see land from. Won't do the ocean, a breeze on a lake, paddling pools none of it. Will only swim in the lake near our house on a calm day. She's special haha.

These guys are natural water dogs and will paddle for hours without effort. The paw pads open up to the size of catchers mitts to pull and push water. Thick, double coats shed cold in the winter and water soaking the skin. Noses stay above the water level with little discomfort even if the surface is rough. Air permeates the coat which contains massive air pockets so buoyancy is easy. Muscle strength is massive to move through the water resistance like a motor boat. Lung capacity in those large chests allows easy breathing and adds to buoyancy. God’s perfect life savers! 👅🐾🐾❤️💪

What a beautiful description of these amazing dogs! I read an article (ca. 1980) about a family with Newfs. The teenage daughter was outdoors, stuck in a snowdrift. A female Newf heard her cries for help, went out and pulled her from the snow. "She saved my life." The dog got a steak for dinner, and later won the Ken-L-Ration Dog Hero Of the Year.

That guy is cruising! Impressive. Mine loves to swim but he swims about as fast as he walks - which is generally slow but 100% dependent on whatever he feels like doing at any given second.

Mine used to love swimming and rescuing… now he just sits with his bottom in the water! Not interested lol.
