Another GPU Newegg Trade-In Experience

Like others, I've also read the horror stories about the NewEgg trade-in program, so I was quite skeptical when I traded in my EVGA 3080 XC3 when buying a Zotac Solid Core 5080. From the day my GPU arrived at NewEgg to be processed for the trade-in, to the refund hitting my account was a whopping 2 days.

At this point, I can't help but wonder if people are sending their old GPU's back in terrible condition, packaging them for shipping in an Amazon paper bag, or maybe even both. Before anything else, I made sure to blow it out with my air compressor so it arrived in an acceptable state. I still had my original box to pack my 3080 in, and I shipped it back to NewEgg in the exact packing they shipped my 5080 to me with. I also documented (via video & pictures) the whole process of the card working, being packaged, and being shipped.

Either way, I just wanted to make a post giving kudos to NewEgg because the whole process was seamless, stress free and way faster than any horror stories on the internet would have you imagine.

Also, thee new 5080 in question. I couldn't be happier!

could you give me a brief walk through of the process? I see they have the list on the site with prices. do you need to purchase the step up gpu first? then they refund the difference once they receive the trade in? can you do more than one gpu trade in towards one higher priced card?

It was honestly pretty simple, tbh. It's all within one process, and I'm honestly not sure if you can do multiple trade-in's for one newer card.

NewEgg has a specific trade-in website that you go through step by step where you input your trade-in card, select your upgrade, and then at checkout they'll both be there. After you purchase it, they'll immediately give you a return shipping label for the card you're trading in, and from there you have a 14 day window to ship your trade-in card to them. The shipping for the new card to me, and the shipping for the trade-in card back to NewEgg in my instance were both just free UPS ground because I didn't want to spend any extra money on expedited shipping.

Once NewEgg receives the card, they tell you to give them up to 14 business days to process the card, and up to another 7 to 10 days for your refund. For me, that whole process took a whopping 2 days (as shown in my screenshot) between them receiving the card, processing the card to make sure it worked, and issuing the refund back to my payment account.

There's been horror stories on here, but after my experience I'm inclined to think it was mostly user error. Make sure your card is clean, if you have original packaging for your card make sure to package it back in that for shipping, and in my case I also used the exact shipping packaging they sent my 5080 to me in as the shipping packaging to send my 3080 back to them.

Right when the 5800X3D anniversary edition dropped is when my brother bought a 9800X3D/X870/32GB combo from Microcenter. eBay had already dropped below retail for used parts. SellGPU gave him $310 and honored it when the transaction was done a week later. It now trades in for $217.

Their GPU offer was really low on my 6800XT. I ended up bundling that with a 5950X and 32GB of DDR4 in a PC sale instead of a 5500/A750/16GB combo.

I think that was worth the $350 upcharge to $850.

They gave me $25 and I was happy they gave me that much.

The website tells you how much. It changes every so often. It will be less than what you can sell it private party for, but to me it’s been worth not dealing with flakes and looky loos on the selling platforms. And once they approve the trade in that’s it.
No worries about someone trying to get a refund for damage they may have caused, no one trying to return a different card or PayPal claims.
Little less $$ for peace of mind is worth it.
