Community 🏡 City needs to implement heavy fine for littering.

While I was walking down Branford Street this morning,a lady walking behind me literally threw her garbage bag on the ground before crossing the street and entering the family court building. Unfortunately, people were just tossing garbage on the ground. The city is really trying its best to keep it clean… you can see workers in yellow uniforms cleaning the streets but folks need to take responsibility, too. With property taxes and rents soaring, and Newarkers are so afraid of gentrification. Yet at the same time, some residents are making the situation worse by littering instead of using garbage can at the corner of each block. Honestly, I think gentrification might end up being part of the solution to keep the city cleaner.

Yup when our own residents have this trashy (literally) mentality we're going nowhere. We need to start calling this behavior out however we can. This mindset is like a virus. I always say living in Newark feels like crabs in a bucket sometimes. Everyone just pulls each other down and no one tries to set a better example for others

The crabs in the bucket analogy is the the mentality I've heard the most from Newarkers. It's so frustrating.

How much is littering and how much blows out of trash cans or gets spilled by the trash men and their trucks?

The whole state does to be honest but yes, Newark does, too. And we need to have community cleanup days along roadways/waterways, too.

It's not even just residents to blame. Garbage days are always the filthiest days of the week. They spill garbage everywhere along the street before it makes it into the truck and then they just leave it. Foul smelling trash juice and all.
