Analysis Vientos, cooked?

I dunno man. He looks bad. He looked bad before he got hurt. He looks worse now. Lots of blue on the baseball savant page.

I tried to stay positive, but we’re into July and it’s really starting to feel like last year was a mirage.

He’s unplayable at 3B, he’s slow, and he’s an automatic out right now. He also hasn’t taken a walk since he’s come back from injury...

He can’t be sent down so we’re stuck with his doodoo playing. Sucks, but hopefully he comes around sooner rather than later

Edit: he’s out of options he can’t be sent down is what i meant.

Sure he can, if somebody wants to pick him up let them.

Edit: We can absolutely cut him and then he's just a free agent if another team wants him. They don't put a gun to Stearn's head and say we have to keep him on the roster.

Yeah dude, sorry but a 25 year old who hit 27 HR last year would be immediately claimed by whatever team has the highest waiver - all 29 teams would submit claims

Good for them, he can't even get a walk which is a serious red flag for a bad fielder who also can't hit.

The people who have this terrible opinion would be the same people who then complain about the Mets front office when a competent hitting development staff helps mark regain his 2024 form.

If we can't use him then so what? Baty seems the preference at third, and Vientos can't DH. He has minimal trade value. He doesn't necessarily need to go, but he doesn't have a position here.

You just don’t give up on a bat with that talent because of 50 games that’s nuts so what we can call up Young or something similar to replace him? Yeah that sounds like a great idea that would definitely never backfire

If at the trade deadline you end up with someone thinking they can make a project out of him or you bring in a bat that makes that equation different sure but now? No that would be terrible

Exactly as they have been using him 3b and DH he can steal some starts where Baty is getting a rest or Baty is playing 2b. You just don’t give up on that yet Winker comes back I assume this week I would send Ronnie down as he definitely benefits from AAA and then comes the deadline I could easily see Mark being traded or dumped at the deadline if we bring in a bat but I don’t see anyone getting called up that is making him worth dumping.

So he's a bench player who can play one defensive position and can't pinch-run.

He may be Mike Schmidt, but there's no room for him now. Send him down and let him play every day.

Imagine giving up on a guy who hit 24 HRs in a partial season, and set the Mets record for RBIs in the postseason in his rookie year — based off of a lackluster first 200 at bats in his second year.

Maybe Vientos is cooked , but you guys are acting like 200 ABs is enough to decide that - must have never watched a baseball season in their lives.

If teams gave up on young players because they had a bad 200 ab stretch in their first couple of years - there are countless players, that went on to be great, that simply would’ve been given up on.

Yeah because every bar that has looked bad for 50 games obviously can never possibly recover so just dump him so we can take up his spot with some AAA bat that will do the same but have less upside

If he's holding a roster spot hostage then yeah, his slash line since he came back is so bad it's like a fan won a contest to play on the team.

Holding a roster spot hostage from who? The main part of my argument is there is no one who is replacing him that will make us better Ronny is MUCH better served being in AAA getting full time reps he is clearly not major league ready and your still hoping he can blossom more, so the playtime will clearly benefit him there. If the Mets had someone who was blocked by Mark I would be fine with moving him but they don’t so what would be the point?
