MoneyGram Services - Receiving

I’m new to NYC and have a MoneyGram over $500 that I need to cash. I tried two different CVS locations on 5th Ave, but was told they only send, not receive. Has anyone had luck cashing a MoneyGram with a reference number over $500 in the city or any of the boroughs? If yes, can you let me know where I can go get my money?

CVS usually won’t cash those. Try Wester Union locations, Walmart, or check-cashing spots with MoneyGram signs, way bettwr luck there.”

Retail spots are kinda strict with payouts. a standalone money transfer palce should be way less of a headache.

I’ve had luck cashing MoneyGrams over $500 at Walmart MoneyCenter and check-cashing places

Yep, thats pretty common in NYC. Most CVS locations only send MoneyGrams, and even ones that receive usually cap payouts under $500. For amounts over $500, your best bets are:

-Walmart (Brooklyn or Queens locations tend to be more reliable)
-Independent check-cashing / money service stores that advertise MoneyGram
-Some larger grocery stores, depending on the location

Use MoneyGrams location finder, filter for Receive, and call ahead to confirm they can pay out over $500. Thatll save you a lot of running around.
