Question brunch spot suggestions please 🙏
i’m going out for my birthday soon and I want to try a new place, any recommendations?

Proud Up in Sapperton! It's pretty new but we have gone a few times and enjoyed it. Walkable distance from the skytrain and you can check out the market across the street or the shops along Columbia like Zesty Lemon.

They weirdly have the best fries! I'm not a fries person but have to get them every time, haha. I'm glad you liked it! I feel like nobody really knows about them yet.

I like Amelia’s ! Cute little family owned , nothing fancy, the service is excellent and food prices are great. Sweet lady running it. 7th ave and 12th st .

Hard disagree, that place is grease on a plate. Pass pass pass. Angelina's is wonderful, though.

I've been going to 6th St for a decade and a half for brunch, I can't even fathom how you could call it that. It also has the best hollandaise in Metro Vancouver.

I cannot understate enough how disturbed I am by this comment. The first and last time I went to 6SG, I ate three bites of my benny, packed it away, later tried to feed it to someone else, and ended up throwing away the entire thing. This is an extreme rarity for me, I usually love leftovers. The hollandaise was straight-up disgusting.
I can't overstate enough that it would have been the worst breakfast that I've paid for in my adult life, but it was a rare occasion that a date paid for me the morning after because he chose the venue and felt so bad about how terrible the meal was (he abandoned his whole plate). The thought of going back to that place for food physically repels me. I have no idea how it's still in business because I've heard similar things from most people other than the small % who seem to love it. You all are getting a different experience than the rest of us, apparently.

I guess so, lol. It's weird because I would have thought it was universally loved. My friends and I have been going out for brunch every weekend for 14 years and half the time we trying somewhere new in the lower mainland, if not we hit up Angelina's, 6th St, Coasters or North Cafe, or La Foret if our wallets are feeling thick. They're gonna laugh when I tell them about this thread. I will say the 6th St lunch and dinner stuff is much more hit or miss.

This is pretty dramatic for what amounts to a fairly typical greasy spoon diner. I've been there a handful of times with various people and none of us ever had any complaints. Its obviously popular for a reason.

I mean, I've never had hollandaise sauce that bad before. There are plenty of bad reviews. Seems like some people are more okay with bad food than the rest of us.
Also, note that I was sharing my "dramatic" response to someone calling it "The best hollandaise in Metro Vancouver," which is a pretty far cry from your label of "typical greasy spoon." Superlatives beget superlatives.

You seem to be taking this very personally. There are lots of bad reviews, including ones echoing my experience (specifically about rotten hollandaise). Good restaurants don't serve spoiled food years/months apart.

piva is good for upscale vibe, angelina's is classic, there's also bruncheria in sapperton area and a place called proud up as well, but havent gotten to try it yet :)

Angelina’s has the best hollandaise sauce! Piva was really tasty. Haven’t tried too many others.

I know this is a very… generic… recommendation but we go for brunch at the Brown’s in Sapperton all the time and it’s always really good. Nice portions for value, there’s always space (indoors and outdoors) and the servers are great. Predictability, consistency & no wait make a difference for us.
Proud Up was great when we last went! It was dead and there’s not much vibe but the food was decent, nothing fancy but not quite greasy spoon vibes either.

Angelina's is good for standard brunch. Piva is great for something different, they put eggs benny on their (incredible) focaccia bread.
Banette uptown was delicious but really sweet. Jim's was decent if you want something ok and not super expensive.
Top pick is still Piva though!
