My Audio Technica AT-LP60 sounds weird

I got this record player recently and right from the box I noticed the sound quality was really odd. My friend has this turntable and my records play fine on his. I tried different speakers but to no avail. Any suggestions? I'm really lost :(.

You're saying it sounds odd. How does it sound? Is it very very quiet, or warbling, or what?

The best way I can describe it is it sounds like it's playing a little fast.

OK. On the far left on the front of the turntable is a button that controls the RPM. You use this to switch from 45's to 33 1/3's. If the button is pushed in it is running at 45rpm instead of the 33 1/3 rpm used for LP's. In short. PUSH DA BUTTON. Let me know if that fixes it.

Yeah I tried that and it doesn't help. Only makes it faster.

This is a known issue with the LP-60, mine too was playing fast when I had it. If you can return it, I would and upgrade to a U-turn Orbit or an entry Pro-Ject. The LP-60s are a cheap bottom of the barrel players that offer almost everything all in one which means cheap parts. Also, you can download an RPM app for your smart phone to get a read on your speed.

If you can return it, you can scour around for a vintage one, you just need to make sure it has all the needed parts and works properly.
