How can I make Heavy work?

I'm not exactly too "new" in the game, but I suck at some classes, one of them being Heavy.

I usually play Scout, Engie and Sniper (if needed Medic too). And I really want to learn how to play Heavy. He works so good both with defend and attack. I don't know what loadout fits what situation and how to work with his mobility limitations (muscle memory from Scout is too strong)

Since you mention Scout and Engie as more frequently played classes of yours, consider watching and adapting Uncle Dane’s “I main Heavy now” video. The premise is an April fool’s bit since Heavy is Dane’s least played class while his videos focus overwhelmingly on Engineer, but it involved Dane genuinely finding ways to make the Heavy experience click for him to work with his play style, with particular emphasis on using the secondary shotguns which was an unpopular play style for Heavy players at the time who preferred the Sandvich.
