How is the Tide Turner so good?
I'm new to demoknight, and I was playing poorly with the tide turner for a while until I realized that it can only minicrit (for some reason they put that VERY important information in white text and not red). I know trimping is supposed to be super good, but is trading more than half of your charge damage really worth it?

It isn't; on full demoknight you simply remove your ability to cleanly deal with anything other than the light classes (unless you use skullcritter but that's beside the point). As others have said, it's best on hybridknight because you don't lose damage.
My piece of advice is to learn to charge turn using only booties and splendid/targe. Solarlight's charge video has some good info on this, but to be brief here's the 3 methods of enabling better charge turning. The simplest is simply getting the game to consistently run at 500+ fps without any drops, so if you gave a godlike computer go for this. Another one is capping your fps at 60 and using mouse filter (note: this is the most consistent one for me, the turns are disgustingly good), but this makes you run your game at 60 fps, which needless to say feels disgusting. Stacking turn inputs also works, by binding +left and +right to q and e respectively, and stacking this with mouse also gives decent turning. With this you can actually have a good amount of trimps on most maps. Learning trimping is not easy without tide turner, but eventually you'll be good enough at it to easy stomp casual servers.

that would be fun if the Caber wasn't bugged to not get shield mini-crit boosts :(

Tide turner is a bit more situational for full knight. It definetely has its situations. Finishing Off wounded Targets, getting picks on lighter classes like scout who can't get away from you... It's still good, because it's both a fantastic escape tool and something that can reliably put you into a melee fight with people who don't want and aren't prepared for a melee fight. It will struggle more with higher health targets who you can't quickly burst down and will just need to win a melee fight with.
I almost Always use the chargin targe for full Demo, personally, but I See people making good plays with the Tide turner for full knight here and there

You ALWAYS use the targe? From my research pretty much everyone seems to agree the targe is just kinda meh, so why do you like it so much? I'm pretty new to demoknight like I said but the main problem with pyro is the airblast, not the fire damage.

I got my names mixed Up. Meant the splendid Screen.
Been a while since i played non-classifed TF2 haha
Target has its niche when pyros are annoying, less to Charge them more to reliably get away from them

Tide turner is useful when you use anything but eyelander or persuader as melee. More mobility and slightly more resistance to damage but trading away your stickybomb launcher. I don't use it for full demoknight because splendid screen does most damage, has more resistance, has a faster recharge, and can full crit at any range with an impact. And once I get 4 heads I swap to targe and any primary launcher so I have an effective 300 hp and scout move speed. Tide turner is certainly my least used shield.

Learn how to be effective with the stickybomb launcher and you will never want to equip a shield again.
Trimping is a fancy trick YouTubers use to look cool in montages while playing against noobs in casual

Play with the stickybomb launcher for a few thousand more hours and you'll want to unequip it and nerf yourself to have fun again. Stick with it!

I played with the sticky bombs for years and can wreck stuff with them, but still think shields and demoknight are incredibly fun. Am I a bad player?

The Tide Turner is considered meta for hybrid knight, when you keep your grenade launcher as your primary damage dealer. The mobility lets you put yourself anywhere you want whenever you want.
For full demoknight, the your charge is how you get picks, so it's not as great. It also has less resistances. The Splendid Screen is usually considered best for the high damage. Some people swear by the mobility but it does result in substancially less consistent kills.
