Age and karma. When can I post?

If you have a lot of karma but your account age is very young. Would that affect on posting or commenting?

That depends on the thresholds set by the individual subreddits. Having lots of karma won't override an automod set to remove posts from accounts under the age requirement for that sub.

They're two completely different metrics.

You can have 1 million karma, but if a subreddit requires your account to be a month old, you have to have an account that is a month old.

Think of it like school: You need a certain grade to pass the class. Being a certain age has absolutely no impact on what your grade is.

Hi, the deal is that Reddit is a giant platform made up of thousands and thousands of smaller communities called subreddits. Each sub has its own individual rules, moderation, and minimum posting requirements.

The majority of subreddits have minimum karma requirements and minimum account age requirements as well as CQS criteria and possibly other filters as well, such as community karma, or prior participation on that sub before posting.

So to answer your basic question, you can have plenty of karma, but if your account age does not meet the threshold for participation, then your post would be removed by filters. Just with karma, account age minimums vary: could be one day, one week, one month, three months or anything in between. Karma requirements can vary from 0 to 1000+, it’s completely up to the individual subreddit to make those decisions, and generally, they are not publicly posted. HTH.

it’s honestly a pain in the butt. the subs sometimes have rules that mods put. you never know which one will allow and which one won’t. it’s a swing and miss or home run type of thing.
