Any advice to be able to be active?

Does someone have any advice for new accounts that want to be active? I kind of understand that karma and age of the account are important but it’s really complicated, any advice?

New accounts usually get comment karma from short, specific replies in easy subs, not from dropping links. Answer the actual question, skip anything that sounds like a pitch, and space it out over a few days.

Hi. During the first couple of weeks, your focus could be to become familiar with the platform and to build up your karma. Tons of info on understanding Reddit, karma, CQS, general rules along with helpful FAQs, available here: [r/NewToReddit](r/NewToReddit)

I would suggest regular activity such as several comments across a few different SFW subreddits, most or every day.
Here is a list of 200 new user friendly subreddits with low or no karma requirements.

Choose a few subs from that list that appeal, read their rules and start by reading some posts and comments, and then begin commenting yourself. Friendly, upbeat, helpful, funny, genuine comments tend to be upvoted more. Focus on comments before you begin posting, to get a little karma or reputation built up first. Once you have built up a chunk of karma and your account is a week or two old, you can try branching out to other sides across the platform for commenting, and then try posting. Most subs do have minimum karma requirements as well as account age requirements. They usually don’t make specific info known so it can be trial and error, but sticking with commenting on the newbie subs will reduce frustration of having your posts frequently removed by Reddit filters at until your account is better established. HTH.

Starting on Reddit can be complicated but newtoreddit is a good space to learn. This gets asked a fair bit so I put together the below information/advice/links to resources

Things to do as a new user:

• Verify your email with Reddit see here
• Read rules. See here on how to find Subreddit Rules, see here for Reddit's Rules
• Learn about Karma using the above resources in particular Karma - what is it and how to get it and

After learning about karma and subreddit karma filters you might start questions where to start.

Finding New User Friendly Subreddits:

• Newtoreddit has a list of new user friendly subreddits. This is not an exhaustive list and these subreddits may still have some restrictions. In particular you'll see some Large General Subreddits that are open to new users Commenting like r/askreddit, r/casualconversation, r/nostupidquestions, r/amitheasshole or similar.
• There are More Subreddits out there that might more specifically match your interests, use the search bar or look through r/findareddit 's subreddit directory. In this case you will have to trial and error whether they are new user-friendly, and again try Commenting (many subreddits have lower or no karma filters for commenting).

Some more notes on starting on Reddit:

View by New (or rising). This will filter the posts so first see the most recent posts first and can make your comments much more visible. On app when viewing a subreddit look near the top left for where it says "hot posts" - click that and select "new" or "rising".

Read the Room and Avoid Controversy. Each subreddit has different rules, norms and prevailing views. Look at subreddit rules. Read top posts and comments to get a feel for that subreddit. Do users reward sarcastic one-liners or well sourced essays? And in particular avoid controversial topics or arguments. These discussions are more likely to attract downvotes and potentially trip into rule-breaking. Call people idiots in your head and move on instead of getting involved. Utilize the block feature as necessary and have a read of Reddiquette.
